Looking to buy furnitures (wood) for the new home.

Any good/recommended place in Bangkok (beside Jatuchak) or Chiang Mai?

I heard about a place in Bangkok , where furnitures are build from inmates, but can't get the exact location.

I'm looking at:

- Wood

- Tables, chair, bed (non standard size), ...

- not too styly

- affordable

The furniture made by inmates may be made at the prison. It is here in chiang mai.

Yep, but they are not sold there.

What I was told is that they have one exhibition day per year, but the rest of the year, you buy the furniture somewhere else, around Ngam-Wongwarn / Viphavadee.

I'd be grateful to have any specific pointers and particularly, recommendations, about shops (or anywhere available to retail sale) anywhere within reach of chiang mai (I have a car) selling wood furniture of good quality - and taste.

I was told of an area in the direction of Hang Dong, but only in those general terms - nothing specific.

Is there substantial price bargaining to be done for such items, or is everything fixed price?

I'm looking now for a kitchen/dining table and chairs; but also standard lamps, sideboard/chest of drawers, side-tables, et al.

At the Home Pro Lad Phrao there is a company outside by the parking lot that sells made in Chaing Mai furniture. All custom made so it takes 3-4 weeks to get it. I bought a bed, side tables and a TV table. All OK quality (finishes could be better) and the price was reasonable. They have plenty of samples and pictures. Worth a visit to check out.

There are dozens of strores and makers in the sois between Pracharat and Pracharat Sai. I think 26 is the main one.
