At least 20 people have been killed and scores more injured after a freight train collided with a bus in Chachoengsao on Sunday morning.

The accident happened at around 8am at Khlong Khwaeng Klan station when the train hit bus as it crossed over the train tracks.

The bus, which was carrying 60 passengers, was travelling to a nearby temple.

Images shared by Thai news outlets showed the aftermath of the accident, with bodies scattered along the train tracks and the bus ripped in two.

This is a developing news story. This post may be updated without warning.

Just another unsecured, unprotected level crossing

  • Popular Post

On the Thai news they claimed the following:

* No crossing barrier, but lights were flashing. Driver could not hear the train whistle. Probably had the music cranked up.

* Apparently the bus got caught on its undercarriage as the track was not level. If this is true the rail company also bears responsibility.

Hopefully they do a fully investigation and take corrective actions not just on this crossing, but all across Thailand.

The only time I ever took a train journey here was from Si Sa Ket to Bangkok....I heard the train driver sounding the horn several times to warn a farmer not to drive his cattle across the tracks....completely ignored it and it was a bloodbath...fortunately it was cattle and not human lives lost....beggars belief what this bus driver was thinking about.

RIP to the deceased :jap:

*Perhaps the coach was heavily laden on worn out suspension and so low to the ground....?

There is a Youtube video of the accident, probably from a CCTV surveillance camera, in which it seems like there are warning lights, but I cannot see on the video if they were signalling...

–And a Daily News Youtube-shared video of the aftermath...

The sad reality is that so many people here just don't have enough patience to stop, look and listen.

Wonder if driver survived if so will he be charged with mass murder

Never mind rain or problem tracks Its by his negligence alone at least 20 people are dead he drove his bus in front of a train that was never going to end well

It hasn't

Off to the temple. Amulets and tattoos clearly did not help. nor did the supposed power of Buddha. RIP to the dead and may the injured make a full recovery

No excuses there. The driver didn't look.

From that video it’s clear that the bus didn’t get stuck. Driver wasn’t paying attention at all.

I suppose brake failure was not an option in this instance..????

Idiot behind the wheel.

I hope he was removed from this planet.

Blame the brain dead bus driver, he is the one responsible to transport his passengers in safety.

Why is it Thai's think a train will stop because they venture in front of it

RIP to the lost souls

Exactly Colin.

There is a crossing I use here on the way to Makro. There are no barriers, only a flashing light. However, I ALWAYS stop, and look both ways before I drive over the lines. Regardless of the lights not flashing. I have even had cars behind toot the horn because I stop for three seconds !!!! They will never, ever learn.

20 killed as train rams into bus in Chachoengsao

A train crashed into a bus in Chachoengsao province on Sunday morning, reportedly killing 20 bus passengers, while 15 injured people were rushed to the local hospital.

The 60 bus passengers from Samut Prakarn province were heading to join a religious ceremony in Chachoengsao.

According to eyewitness accounts, the bus driver had stopped at the railway crossing for a train but he reportedly did not notice the alarm for another train coming from the other direction.

Locals said that the alarm station was abandoned and the spot blocked the sight of oncoming trains.

The bus was entirely destroyed while police were investigating the cause of the accident. Rescue teams have rushed to the site.

That would appear to be a different accident. The picture in this story shows a passenger train, that is a freight train.

That's just another train passing after the accident happened.

Maybe they need to approach their problem of road carnage with the same enthusiasm as they did with their heavy-handed response to Covid-19.  I mean really.  Isn't it wayyyy past time to address the 21,000 people killed at year - at the scene - and apply a serious solution to this daily slaughter.

It was a freight train. The original article says so. The picture must have been taken later when a passenger train was stopped there.

They may have "Stop.... look... listen" here, but also need oh so important component "Process that information in your alleged brain and act accordingly"

I presume this photo shows the road level in the crossing...

If you look at the CCTV of the accident, it's a long freight train...

The crossing seems to be next to a station, so likely other trains with passengers pass, and stop, there.
