Infected foreigners have to pay for everything themselves, doctor assures Thais

So, if they get it in Thai quarantine, infected by a Thai or bad hotel policy, they have to pay - talk about a pathetic scam.

Gets sillier by the day

I certainly would' not trust the hotel to always clean the rooms effectively after every negative case moved out. Perhaps they would after a positive case, but who knows. In any case I'd pack a can of disinfectant and spray the room from top to bottom. After all hotels feed the hospitals with patients don't they.

That's why you'd be crazy to get tested or even use the QR tracking if covid cases are increasing, you'll end up in hospital even if no symptoms plus a large bill

  • Paying for unnecessary treatment in a isolation chamber at a overpriced private hospital? Yeah the commission payed will be quite nice a guess.

Not really sure what you mean, but there have been a number of posts on Thaivisa of people from the UK complaining that foreigners don't have to pay for healthcare in their country (I am not sure this is true or not true) however it shows that people hold resentment that others who are not native to a country deplete its resources.

This anger lives in the UK so why is it so strange it is in Thailand too. This minister is just trying to make it clear that this does not happen and thus making sure there is no extra distrust of foreigners.

Not sure your post is relevant, but UK folk are understandably annoyed at people coming in willy nilly having babies etc at their expense. This is not the same thing, especially when people have covid insurance. It is just xenophobia pure and simple. Anyway, sad to see you're still doing the anti-Brit thing. :saai::saai::saai: Back on ignore.

Would personally give Thailand a wide berth until they man up, produce figures and stop forcing people into boxes. Every country everywhere is well infected, NOBODY is special, there is no us and them. Go down that road and you end up isolated and walking on eggshells. Next, they'll be saying there's no influenza there.

It is exactly the same thing, and this is not an anti Brit thing at all. Its just that you guys are vocal about this. Same like you.

Brits (and others) dont want to pay for healthcare of others. Thais don't either. Thais don't know that foreigners have this insurance. All this minister is doing is making sure that Thais know that foreigners pay for themselves. Just as xenofobic as in the UK. I don't consider it xenofobic (not from Brits not from Thais) to want that non Thais dont get free healthcare at the expense of Thais.

This only defuses the situation nothing more. It tells them that foreigners pay for themselves.

I dont feel its offensive, just making sure that Thais dont see the foreigners as a burden. If i read the UK thread how many from the UK are angry if someone gets helped in their system and does not pay. Why would it be different for Thais better to make it clear that they would not burden the Thai healthcare. Stops the spread of rumors.

A glowing example of what foreign tourists to the land of smiles can expect.

Same as the WHO, they are not protecting the world population at all, they only care for their job...

And Trump had the right idea when he told who they could whistle for their money.

Until you read the ultra small print and find out the insurance has a cap, and you have to make up the huge balance.

Untrue - unless that is you under insured in which case that is your fault

How does paying falang price at a govt. hospital burden the Thai health system? it actually gives them more funds! This is so obviously a scam with the Hotels, private hospitals and insurance rip offs. LO scams.

That would then be you unfortunately.  I talked to my insurance agent in the US, and messaged my agent here in Thailand.  Waiting on the agent here with PCH, but the US based insurance will only pay if you are undergoing actual treatment. Essentially that means that if have been placed into a hospital isolation ward for being just Asymptomatic your insurance will not pay one dime because you are not being treated.  Waiting to hear back from PCH as to whether the policy I have would cover being placed into Isolation.

About 3 weeks ago I went to government hospital to see a urologist. As foreigner I paid a total of 53 Baht.

I'm sure they are still organizing parties from that windfall as we speak

Agree that is not enough - get full Medical Insurance not just a cut down policy to appease the authorities

The UK government announced that everybody, including fireigners, infected with covid 19 will have free treatment stating that this even included illegal immigrants. Thais should know this too.

You wonder why....

any body would bother to put up with the stringent financial and other regulations, coming here to have a holiday after a 14 day or 30 day quarantine stay in a BKK hotel!

<deleted> THAT for a joke.

Does that apply to Chinese tourists as well?

Dont tell me ANY prospective tourist would put up with that in their right mind.

I just do not like the fine print that says, (Die quick, sucker!)

Geezer

Hmmm, I thought that why one has to have one of these ridiculous 100000US$ insurances. Now they do not pay?

No insurance company will pay out if they can get away with using the small print, or any technicalities they can come up with.

Because that is not the way public health policy works. The goal is to stop the infection, not figure out a way to gouge certain nationalities. That is how it is treated in the U.S. with regards to TB and other diseases. I don't know about COVID because I haven't been there in a decade, but I do know there is a law in the US that requires hospitals to accept patients for emergency treatment even if they cannot pay.

First time I ever heard that one.

My coverage is from Dhipaya Insurance Pcl.. It's not easy to remember the spelling so I checked Google. I saw that Roojai (broker) also offers same coverage for 850 Baht/year.

I bet that's for people under fifty. What about people over 75? How many people of that age don't have pre existing medical conditions?

in many countries, a Thai MIGHT, just MIGHT, get FREE coverage if they don't have insurance.

in Thailand, if a farang, oh.............................die.....................!!!!!!

don't worry, this is your "home" farang.  really, you have picked a place to live forever around people who really care about you.   5555555

That is what the compulsory insurance is for. They must pay for it.

I am just wondering why some people are going through those hoops just to come to Thailand for a holiday?

Thailand must be heaven on earth.

What people? You mean the Chinese? If so, are they really tourists?

23 hours ago, Xonax said:

Do they want tourists to come and save Thailand or not?

No, the days of Old Bert from Blackpool or Helmut from Hamburg coming to save Noi from Buriram or Lek from Si Saket escape poverty are long gone.

So essentially Thailand is Sweden except there is no testing to speak of outside of quarantine facilities.
So this is what untreated, unaddressed SARS-Cov-2 in the wild looks like.  People getting sick and hospitalized, some dying of the things that people normally die from with the death certificates accurately detailing the causes of death - as opposed to testing the bodies for SARS-Cov-2 and if positive listing the death as caused by Covid.
So Thailand is a reflection of reality.

"Just you wait!  Just you wait!  The bodies will be stacking up in the street.  Then you'll be sorry!!!'
Ok.  I'm waiting.  Without a mask.  Let me know when it arrives.

I don't know if it's enough but what if they reach the 100.000 costs...will they drive your bed onto the parking lot and say goodbye if you can't pay more?

I do have an healthcare insurance which covers for much more than 100.000$ but it won't cover the covid flue which is ridiculous since covid is a flue...not a pandemic.

Are you sure?

Just now, Neeranam said:

Yes i asked my extended travel insurance and they said i was not covered for covid...i didn't ask my normal healthcare insurance though but i think it doesn't cover in Thailand...not sure though but that's why all Europeans left Thailand when covid broke out.
