Hi all. :o

I'm looking at going down to Lamai for a week in June. The last time I went to Samui was quite a few years ago and I stayed in Chaweng beach this was before I was married with kids. I have been informed that Lamai is better suited for families and therefore am looking at staying there. I would like a AC Bungalow on the beach and the most I am (ideally) looking at paying is about £2000 baht per day (maximum). I have two small children so would like a pool which is of course safe and clean. Also friendly staff and good restaurant with bar would be a bonus.

Any recommendations??

Many thanks,

Matthew.

Er, who told you Lamai is better suited to families? Personally speaking I would not feel comfortable walking my kids around an area with so many ladybars. If you are then fine, if not then maybe try Fishermans Villlage or Maenam

try thai house resort it is clean and decent..but i do not know if they have 2 bedroom bunglaows. but they have a small jacuzi for the kids and it is nice..i have been there several times with my family

Why? And it isn't as if the bars are everywhere. There are many in Chaweng as well.

The fact is that almost any of the resorts on Lamai in your price range will be nice and good for kids.

Why? Must admit I am curious as to the answer a parent would give if a child asks why scantily dressed ladies are rubbing themselves up against poles. Maybe the op or someone could get back on this one. And yes, I know there are many bars in Cheweng as well. Thats why I suggested Fishermans Village as a possible alternative

To get relief from mosquito bites maybe?

Personally I would not take my children in side these bars, but there prescence would crertainly not put me off staying in Lamai, Bang Rak or Mae Nam with my children.

I am far more worried about what my 4 year will see on T.V.

Firstly, thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm still not too sure which hotel to go for yet so ask that this thread can stay open for a while longer to see if anyone else has any other recommendations. Re the lady bar thing. Yes, I am aware that there are bars down in Lamai. But, I am not going to take my kids there! :o But fair comment Goldfish. :D Fishermans village does look quite appealing. If we stay in Lamai We'll probably just stick to the beach during the evening. Or has that changed now? Are there lady bars on the beach now? :D

Cheers.

Hi Matthew,

I'm in a similar position to you, with 2 kids under 3. We're going to Samui for a couple of months in June. We're going to rent a house but will stay in a hotel while we have a look around for one (dont want to commit to 2 months accommodation by soley looking at pictures on the internet). Ultimately we'll probably end up in Maenam or Bophut but thought Lamai would be good temporarily as its close to Chaweng but not AS busy as Chaweng

We'd planned on staying at the Samui Orchid which looked pretty interesting but it'd be interesting to know what others here think of the place.

Maybe just nit picking but Samui Orchid is not in Lamai. It is in Hua Thannon about 4 km south of Lamai.

The Aquarium is ok, the tiger welfare is a bit dubious. The bird show is worth the visit..

Samui Orchid is a very spatious resort with a large grass so it will be suitable for you and your small kids.

I went to the zoo with my three kids and we spent a nice afternoon in the resort as well. Friendly kidloving stuff, good food and an amazing pool.

By the way they have a very cute tigerbaby!

Adding another few rooms, this will be in the back,2 bungalows to go , to make room for new reception ,carpark& extra new pool to be added.Bringing the total # of rooms including bungalows to 78 instead of 56.

Sure, all the resort's tigers, big and babies, are cute and cuddly, because they're all doped to the max everyday.
