How can you quote a post number if you want to include it in a response?

More to the point, why quote a post number rather than actually quote (or link) to it?

The rationale behind ditching them in the first place is that it's potentially a misdirection. The mods may delete numerous posts therefore, when a person says "As stated in post 23" the post that at any given time is marked as "Post 23" can be a totally different post.

By actually quoting/linking to the relevant post the integrity will be maintained regardless of deletions and it makes it much easier (in large, heated threads several pages of posts can be deleted - "post 243 on page 15 mentions X" could take ages to finally track down the actual post referenced), and therefore more likely, others will follow a reference you (as in anyone, not "you" in particular) wish them to.

Just copy and paste the post in question.

It was just easier to say "see post #", but if it has to be done.....
