Bangkok governor Asawin Kwanmuang, left, explains BMA’s plan on improving the landscape around Chong Nonsi canal.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has decided to improve the landscape of Chong Nonsi canal and turn it into a park in time for Songkran next year.

Bangkok governor Asawin Kwanmuang presided over the opening ceremony of the project on Wednesday at the Chong Nonsi Skywalk, overlooking the Sathorn-Narathiwat intersection.

The governor said the plan is to not just improve the drainage of the canal, but also to beautify the area as it is in the centre of the capital and linked with several public transportation routes.

The private sector in the area is also ready to cooperate in developing the area, he said.

The BMA Public Works Department has explored the area and come up with a preliminary sketch. The area will be designed so it is green and connects the business district and surrounding communities with walkways.

A preliminary sketch of the new Chong Nonsi canal.

The Chong Nonsi canal walkway will be about 4.5 kilometres long, and start from Surawong, run through Bang Rak, Sathorn and Yannawa areas before ending at the bank of Chao Phraya River.

The governor said economic growth and increase of population has resulted in the construction of more homes and buildings, cutting down on open, green spaces, which leads to problems like wastewater, air pollution, noise pollution to name a few. Hence, boosting the city’s green spaces is part of BMA’s long-term strategy for the capital.

A utopian dream scene amongst the stench of the canal, traffic fumes and incessant noise of Tuk Tuks and passing trucks. Lovely.

But which Songkran?

You don't expect them to show their hand so soon do you - they will probably hold a lottery for the year ......LOL

If they're serious about building something similar to what's in that sketch, the project will be massive. It's hard for me to see how it could possibly be done within six months, but ok, let's see if they actually follow through.

My old man said anyone who tries to convince you that you can polish a t*rd is lying.

Was "follow through" meant to be a pun?

Looking at the artists impression, it looks like we will be driving on the opposite side of the road when this pipe dream opens. ( the bus is the clue )

It's  a one way street methinks. The figures in the picture are all neatly socially spaced. The canal contains a number of non-working aerators presumably not needed due to the superb condition of the water. Much of the project money will be spent on providing static pedal-powered road rollers indicated by the gentleman staring aimlessly into space on the left bank.....????

Me thinks you require new optical lenses

Look again, the front passenger door is on the RIGHT side of the bus

Now go look at every bus in Thailand, its on the Left  ????

Another day, another dream, and another artist's impression. There's an endless stream of them.......shipping canals, suburban canals, grandiose airports, high speed trains, slow speed dual track trains, suburban trams, super highways connecting EEC and SEC to the Kra canal. If this project gets the approval of PM Prayut it's as good as getting the kiss of death. It will never be heard of again.

Welcome to TVF, the most miserable forum on earth.

A story about an improvement to the landscape in Bangkok and the very first reply is dripping with negativity, soon to be followed by more of the same with one poster even picking holes in a door on a bus in the background.    Life must be miserable to be so utterly negative all the time.

By the way that is a BRT bus which does pick up passengers on the right.  Part of this project is adding a BRT lane adjacent to the khlong.

And just when you thought you had seen the glaring hole in the project, sorry to burst your bubble.
