Go to a business meeting and casually say  "I'm off to Pattaya for my vacation this year" and watch all the raised eyebrows and your credibility take a nose dive as you say "No, No! It's a very high class family destination". As you get wheeled out to the funny farm with a suspected breakdown.

Then call it Chonburi. Sounds better, but it's exactly the same.

If Thailand had funny farms, they would all be full with queues waiting to get in.

Neo Massage Price.  As I was walking through Gaysorn the other day, I noticed that a salon there was charging 1,500 for their neck, shoulder and body massage.  Does anybody really pay these prices?

Yes, if what they get at the end is more than just a happy ending. ????

"Neo" is only for marketing. That's not really "new" that seedy bars are disappearing near beach road for instance. First area was soi 2 and now that's the turn for soi 7 & 8. Nowadays seedy bars have already moved near soi Bukao and with the years they will move even further to the East... With the years the bright side of Pattaya will be emptied of this kind of bars.

And then it will look like Anytown-on-Sea and you will be happy.

There’s actually 2 Hiltons in Beirut. I don’t think many people would want to stay there on vacation though?

You'd be surprised, pre Covid, tourism was the fastest growing sector in Lebanon, making up nearly 20% of its GDP, that's similar to Thailand.

"High quality"?  Seriously?  Pattaya?

Maybe the Thai government is thinking about sending Pattaya tourists to California, New York City or Paris? ????

I think, for all the right reasons, they're not thinking of that at all.

"Neo Pattaya is no longer about seedy bars and nightlife. "

How funny. And every day they build new sex bars in the family resort - even now. They should make an honest advertisement for a city with sex businesses and hookers at every corner. For instance "Pattaya always will give your holidays a happy ending" and others like this.

You seem to be about 10-15 years behind the times.

The Sports and Tourism Minister Kobkarn Wattanavarangkul has clearly said she wants an end to the places like Walking St. But it's all very well for her to have such high ideals, people need the work.

Funny how the groups of chinese loved walking street.  Pattaya hasnt got a thing to see.  Filthy beaches. Nothing family about it.  Yet another day in dream land for thai officials touting trash

Now the focus is on the economy, society, environment and culture

Ok talk about the culture in Pattaya then

you are a tourist and you want to visit a local museum?

No problem, Teddy Bear museum is for you

An art gallery? We have one in stock, Art in paradise is the name !

You are ready for a nice evening at the opera teather?

Please give a try to the Tiffany's cabaret show

Do you like to read some books when you are at the beach?

Mmmm we need more time to create a municipal library in the future

Anything else?

Why?

Because sex tourism is a much smaller part of Pattaya in 2020 than it was in the first decade of this century (and there aren't prostitutes on every corner...at least where most people eat, sleep, and shop).

There actually is at least one English library in town.

@Surelynot very good point on the pavements.  how can a family with young kids come here when they have to walk into traffic all the time cuz there is no pavements, or if there is a pavement there is a car parked on it so you have to walk into the  middle of the road anyway.

At 65 I have nearly taken quite a few tumbles........water meters and their pipework are the worst in Bangkok.....stick out all over the place.

I don't know where you stay in Pattaya. But in Central Pattaya they hardly can be avoided. And the hookers even sit in the Central Mall and wait for customers. In respect of bars - you have so many in LK Metro, Soi Buakhao, Made in Thailand, Tree Town and at endless other places in Central Pattaya and they still build new ones despite the Covid situation. Perhaps you have less sex tourists now (for sure when compared to the total tourist numbers) but you have more bars then ever. Add to the bars the (big) Soapy Massages and the massages with happy endings then at least Central Pattaya has nothing to do with a family or even a "normal" tourists location. And the City Hall for sure knows all this and the Pattaya City Police is in the middle of all this on the Beach Road. "Neo Pattaya" - perhaps more neon lights of more nightlife locations. I personally don't expect anything else. Will be interesting to see what really will happen at the new project at Excite area. I am excited already...

Most of what you speak has closed...and I'll repeat, 90% of Pattaya is prostitute free (there is more to the town than Walking Street and Soi LK Metro).

There are still very many open every night and this often until 3 or later. I live in Central Pattaya and see and sadly hear them every night. In respect of prostitution - not even in the Walking Street are prostitutes. As @Mike k says there are only girls selling condoms and showing you how to use them.

However to think that they can suddenly turn it into some kind of high end resort though is nothing but a massive pipe dream. Let’s be honest, prior to Covid you couldn’t even walk down Beach Road in the daytime without being accosted several times by aggressive hawkers trying to sell you viagra, cigarettes or fake sunglasses at inflated prices? The streets, beach and sea are filthy, with garbage piled up all over the place and out of date overflowing sewers a regular occurrence. Not to mention the state of the pavements/ sidewalks and pedestrian crossings with walls or other obstructions at one end?

You hit the nail on the head. This bit alone should make trip-advisor!

I guess some are too scared to tell them to turn on the meter.

Not a cops job..

If there is a law, say against driving at 120 kph in a town centre, then it should be the cop's job to enforce it. There IS a law that says taxi drivers should turn on meters and in Bangkok, there have been several prosecutions & 1000 baht fines; but none in Pattaya.

To illustrate Pattaya Plod's ineptitude this happened to me (admittedly during the Chinese boom.) It was dark and I was behind a coach with no lights on.  I flashed the driver to no avail.  He turned left off Beach Rd which was the way I was going.  I pulled alongside him at 2nd Rd lights & tried to get his attention with no success.  In desperation I pipped my horn.  The cop-in-the-box immediately scented baht & came over.  My GF explained what I was attempting to do.  His reply was, 'Up to him.'  I retorted, 'No up to you.'  He failed to grasp this concept & went back to 'fining' cars which strayed four millimetres over the white line.
