Perhaps we can now qualify to be named a Hub for Farang Heroes. We haven't seen a new hub lately.????

Thailand - The hub of grumpy old men.

Yeah, it was only last year they were stopping farang from entering because they were coming too often. Genuine tourists who wanted to use BKK as a hub from where they could get cheap flights to visit Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia were limited to 2 entries. Guys from Australia and workers based around the region who had a couple weeks off work and wanted to come to Thailand and splash the money around were being stopped or cautioned at the airports for coming too many times.

Do you have any evidence for this please?

I traveled last year and years before every month to Thailand for some days back to my home on long weekend.

I have only the retired visa and money in the bank. No married partner, only long time girl friend over 16 years .

Anyway only my visa is in the passport and I got never such question or request to stay away in the future

I wonder how many Chinese expats are living in Thailand. I believe they are the predominant investors in Thailand.  Chinese investors own the majority of the 49% condo foreigner allocations in a lot of condo buildings. They are mostly to blame for the majority of the Airbnb rentals. Not all you beer bellied oldies who seem to think they are the sole reason why Thailand survives ????????

A while back they viciously  and successfully tried to smoke out all these less desirable “retirees/expats” and now suddenly  we get hailed?  Makes me wonder how sincere they are ????

Never mind, tomorrow we'll be called something else.

We'll always be "farang kee nok"! Ask your wife or gf if you dont know what that means or where it originated from!

Thailand is still a magnet for tourists.  Theses experts are delusional,

and now they appreciate expats.  Prove it by making the immigration process less troublesome

Oh boy, immigration in Thailand is heaven! Trust me!

We don't need another hero.

I prefer that other song: No more heroes.

Heroes And Villains is quite good too - but who are the villains?

It was the land border entries that were restricted to two per year , that was implemented to stop people living in Thailand doing constant land border runs .

It seemed to be a few rogue immigration officers at certain airports that were refusing people entry , I have a suspicion that was related to the refused/detained people having to pay 800 Baht a night in detention .

20 people per night in detention is an income of  32 000 Baht per night ,

Your calculator needs recalibrating.

Did Anutin really say that?

Dirty foreigners, of course he did.  He also had a Twitter rant that he also denied was his. But then does it really matter. There was an agenda to blame the foreigners of infecting Thailand instead of just accepting the spread after the Lumpini boxing stadium match.  Of course as of today the people responsible for that have been reinstated in their military positions quietly without prosecution. So why prosecute returning Thais who illegally crossed back into the country.  Double standards and saving FACE is a way of life for the Thais.  Waiting on a big ceremony where all of the women from the casino, who entered illegally, give a big Mea Culpa and Wai while apologizing and giving gift baskets to Anutin.

Not sure we are seen as heroes by this man or the Government.  It is easy enough to stay here provided you play by the rules set in place.  However, being someone who has paid my dues by supporting families here during this crisis, I know they really appreciate it.  My friends who I supported in Phuket have restarted the gym on a smaller scale and are happy for the locals and few foreigners who have decided to start training Muay Thai again. To them we are their saviors

Not me, I'm no hero, I'm just hunkering down in my bunker; waiting for that fabled vaccination thing; as a heavy smoker and at 65, I guess my chances of getting serious problems are exponentinally increased. Dying doesn't worry me so much, but I can do without the quarantine and medical expenses. Luckily, being surrounded by about an acre of open ground, with two cats, three dogs, and an SO for company, and an internet connected TV, life isn't too difficult. I could get used to this lifestyle. Still, I have to make the occasional foray into the local market. And, of course, my annual visit to Pattaya, just to prove I still have it, whatever "it" is, you'll either understand or you won't. At 16 I had no doubts, now I have to check if it's still there - ha!

Unfortunately many expat farang (that is non tourists) who are under the impression their individual contribution to the Thai economy is a major influence, or acknowledged, anywhere other than their immediate vicinity, are fooling themselves.

Those directly connected may appreciate, and, yes, benefit from your presence, but lets not get carried away exaggerating the  influence on the wider community

Do you have any numbers to backup your dim view of how little we actually contribute into the Thai economy?

They cant or the American government will pull the currency manpulation alarm.

Blame them.

Nah, the Thai BOT knows what it’s doing...they are helping to finance the purchase of those Ferrari’s and vacation homes and education for the kids in the USA schools.

no tools in the tool box and it’s gonna get worse 29 to 28 coming

So, do these "heroes" qualify for any of these new government initiatives or do we still have to get our Thai partner's to book hotels in their names while we pay and take a back seat? Is it now easier for us to get credit cards at Thai banks so we, too, can rack up debt?

Probably not!

Definitely the kind of questions every hero asks first:  "What's in it for me?"  The expats here are obviously far, far from deserving any real benefits from this designation, as it's clearly farcical to pretend our selfish lifestyle here is heroic.  Most of us picked up on that and understand that Thailand does not owe us anything.

It did say that 80% of the 8.2 million long term expats have gone

Seriously??? I thought the Covid extensions made it relatively easy for long-termers to stay? And Thailand has definitely seemed more attractive than lockdowns everywhere else...

If there were ever 8.2 million long-term expats here then they were not just Westerners (which is what most of us probably think of when we say 'expat'), that would include all non-Thais who were living here before C-19.

yeah mate, that is what channel 3 said in the original source that TVF got it from. The article didn’t mention westerners/farangs at all, just the Thai people who are traveling now and the long term stayers from all countries. Read the link and you will realize that yourself.

A few farang readers misinterpreted it and jumped to conclusions and now are believing the Thais are hailing the farang saviors and are now calling for a lower baht, free entry to National Parks, harping on about previously being pulled up for being dirty and on and on. Stark raving mad.

We are all heroes. I have just put on my cape, my tights with the ski sock tucked in and am on my way out to fight the baddies and rescue people.
