But in all seriousness the length & remoteness of land borders make this an unenviable

It may well be an unenviable task due to the terrain & length of aforementioned borders but how many squaddies do they have lolling around doing buggar all ?

Now is the time for them to put all their training to a good use for the benefit of the common man & woman, or maybe they are better suited to easy targets on Bangkok's streets, 16 to 25 year old students, peaceful and unarmed, oh sorry, that's to difficult.

Was up in the mountains at Baan Pha Hi a few days ago, numerous soldiers at the roadside. Stopped and photographed twice. Not sure why anyone would think a foreigner with poor Thai language ability would be a people smuggler.

He said that the pandemic in neighbouring countries remains unpredictable and there is a likelihood that the disease may spread to Thailand, noting that, since Thailand has not imposed a lockdown during the New Year festive season, people from neighboring countries may sneak across the borders to take part.

Considering we have been under a continuous emergency decree for months one would have assumed they were already protecting the borders...

Why were the borders not locked down totally, for the past 9 months? What is the army doing with their time, and how are they justifying that tremendous expense to the nation, if they cannot protect the people?

It represents total dereliction of duty. Perhaps a resignation from Prayuth is in order?

My thoughts too, we've been under a continuous state of emergency for months, now he springs into action?

Astonishing incompetence, indifference and ineptitude. And in most nations the PM would resign over such a monumental failure. Again I ask, what on earth does the army do here, if not protect the borders during a pandemic? Are they completely useless to the nation?

Yeah right... with 2,416 km long border with Burma alone you need like 10's of thousand of soldiers to start to be effective guarding Burma borders only, not to mention other countries bordering Thailand...

They have so many police not doing nothing all day they could use them as well . But then again if a bit of money is waved they just let everybody thru .

[sarcasm]

Meanwhile in other news, Laos has posted soldiers on their border to stop Thais entering Laos - Thailand has had 60 deaths and over 4,000 cases of the virus.  Laos has had zero deaths and just a few dozen of virus cases.....

[/sarcasm]

Better conscript more men and women so you have enough to link arms and surround Thailand.  So many ways into the country without being detected for the surrounding countries and the migrant workers.  Just no way as I see it to keep all of those that want in out.

and now everybody knows why some time ago they were buying tanks, helicopters, submarines.... 555

and now space rockets to go to the moon. Come to think of it, I have not read any more about this since it was first published.

Has the unelected "PM" now abandoned this?  :cheesy:

Another general filled with decorations, wings and other bling.

Gees, how these guys love themselves. No wonder the country doesn't get governed properly because they spend most of their time sitting round tables making up rules and laws for us to obey, then spending more time the next day thinking up ways to change them. :cheesy:

The very same corruption they claimed to seize power to eradicate will likely be the cause of this administration's downfall, as it has all military administrations before it.

History it seems, is not without a sense of irony.

I don't think this administration is going to have a downfall in the near future, although the present unelected "PM" may eventually get replaced with another unelected "PM".

Yesterday more than 500 migrant workers tested postive for covid-19 in Samut Sakhon province.

More than 90% of them were asymptomatic.

Interesting if you look at the location of Samut Sakhon province on the map of Thailand.  It is situated just under Bangkok, and approx 150 km from the Myanmar border.

Now there the migrant workers are saying they paid military personnel 6,500 baht per person  to be allowed into Thailand for work, and to avoid ASQ and the USD$100,000 insurance policy.

Eliminate there is an estimated 500,000 in the RTA alone. Then in the Royal Thai Armed Forces bit, it says 360,850...

Anyways. 2 meters between them, 24 hours per day... 721,700 meters. Exclude 10% senior officers...650 kms.  Need more grunts.

Why not build a big beautiful wall and get the Burmese to pay for it?

65 to 650kms. Finger trouble.
