Boris, like most of the political leaders relies on advice and information given to him by aides, ministers etc. He didn't personally go to Kent and see for himself but relied on information given to him. It depends on who gave him that information and at what time, so if it was wrong the person giving the information was wrong and not Boris.

OTOH it is easy to pick on Boris as he is the person you see.

Yes, maybe he was given correct info in the morning and when he divulged that same info in the evening, it was out of date info , as there was a continuous arrival of lorries throughout the day

No. You can keep defending him, but there were more than 150 lorries in the morning.

Anticipation is key..

How many lorries were on the road at the time when Boris was informed of their being lorrys on the road ?

When was Boris told about the situation ?

How many lorries were on the road at the time ?

According to those at the scene at least 330 more than the 170 Johnson claimed.

Was Boris out there in person with a clip board counting the trucks in, or perhaps he was given a figure by aids.......?

May I suggest that every minute more trucks will turn up, picking on Johnson's number is really quite irrelevant, unless it is another dig at the Tory PM...:coffee1:....

So either he is inept and incompetent by not getting the exact figures before the news conference he arranged or he deliberately mislead people over the numbers on live tv (and his nudge nudge wink wink act with the transport secretary during the conference when he said 170 certainly makes me believe this could be the case).

Either way he has once more proved he is unfit for purpose.

The man’s a joke.

Johnsons claim was that the many of the 500 Lorries were removed from the road and moved to the airport runway to park .

  Which was true .

In the meantime , many other lorries had arrived to park on the road , and they were also moved to the airport runway .

It was an on-going situation and on going situations change by the minute

There were nearly 1000 lorries there by the end of the day .

The info that he gave may have been a few hours out of date

From the link I posted

“Exactly one hour before the briefing, Channel 4 News’s Global Trade Correspondent Paul McNamara was told by a senior official from Kent County Council’s Highways department that there were “nearer 500” lorries involved in Operation Stack – the procedure where lorries are parked along the M20 at times of severe congestion at Dover.

Other reporters, including ITV News’s Business and Economics Editor Joel Hills, tweeted that Kent Highways officials had also given him a figure of 500 and that local sources were “baffled” at the much lower number the prime minister gave.”

Yes, Paul McNamara was told that , we arent talking about him though .

Boris was in Westminister occupied with more important things , other than exactly  how many lorries are parked on a road in Dover

Was told by a senior official from the Kent County Council’s Highways Department -a body you think johnson would consult before starting this particular press conference.

So it would seem johnson called a press conference and didn’t check the latest figures on a key aspect of that conference.

Inept and incompetent if that is true.

If being the operative word...

Right , at 5 PM , there were 3-500 lorries on the road , by the end of the day , there were 1000 lorries on the road End of the day could mean anytime between 8-12 PM , lets call it 10 PM .

There was a lorry arriving every 30 seconds/1 minute apart at Dover .

Boris figure of 170 may have been two hours out of date .

Some things are important , 170 lorries or 500 lorries .

Not important at all

Boris has a hotline to Macron in Paris .

He doesnt have a hotline to traffic control in Dover

I agree with you the exact number really isn't all important. But what is important IMO is that Bosris is bringing the news as he sees fit, not as it is. He is manipulating, and thereby trying to influence public opinion in a way that suits him, regardless of the facts.
