A 40 year old man was shot dead in a hail of bullets at a house in Pathum Thani north of Bangkok. Another man was hit in the abdomen by a stray bullet and a third was axed over the back of the head. Both these are in comas, reported Daily News.

Police including the provincial chief found bullet holes in the door and house supports of a bungalow in the Rattanakosin 200 Years housing estate. There were bloodstains around a stone table out front and evidence of 6 shots fired from 9mm and 11mm guns.

Thawatchai or "Poo", 40, died in hospital after being shot in the head.

Nawee, 39, is in a serious condition after being shot in the stomach.

Karuphon, 40, was axed on the nape of his neck as is also in a serious condition in hospital.

A woman called Chatrudee, 34, was slightly injured after falling in an effort to run away from the violence.

A female witness said that she was at the house with her family along with a man called Nawee and his friends. They were all drinking.

She then said that around twenty men arrived in a pick-up and told them to stop.

Thawatchai ran into the house to get away then the men said they would kill everyone if he didn't come out. They surrounded the house.

Karuphon was hit with the axe but Thawatchai refused to emerge. Before he exited the house he was shot in a hail of bullets by the door. One stray bullet hit Nawee.

The witness blamed a man called "Bird" who on Saturday night had argued with Thawatchai at the house. A fist fight developed and as Bird left in a pick-up he went into and damaged four motorcycles parked outside.

It was Bird and his friends who returned next evening to seek revenge.

Police said there were at least seven men in the pick-up.

'Face' is an excuse and a lame one at that.  Some Asians use it to cover up a multitude of things; stupidly, lack of social graces, lack of understanding, lack of interest, lack of intelligence, lack of education, lack of training. It's an excuse for being impolite and just plain idiotic. Don't ever get sucked in by the 'face' excuse. The  Asian airline that I worked for would never accept that 'face' was any kind of issue in management and personal interactions, by demanding the very best from its employees, regardless.  If they (we all) fxxxed up in any way, they (we) were dealt with and took the criticism, quite public sometimes,  as well as any westerner.

Interesting, as I said most Westerners just don't understand. I teach inter-cultural communication classes to business people around the world, including China, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan etc, as an example of 'direct communication', I use an air traffic controller, where lying to a pilot to save face never will happen.

Indirect communication, including saving face, has many advantages over the other. I don't have time to list them all now, but there are many.

Here's a snipped I copied, about face in Japan.

‘Western face’ is a more self-oriented and individualistic pride or ego, and is more about how one is viewed by others. ‘Japanese face’ is about how one treats others not about the self, and can be given or earned. It can be also taken away or lost.

As a general sociological statement, Western cultures tend to focus on the individual as an independent, self-reliant being. In raising children, the focus is on helping them develop a strong sense of personal integrity and individuality where misbehaviour is often blamed on lack of self-esteem.

In contrast, Japanese culture has downplayed the concept of the individual, instead emphasizing the supremacy of the family and group. It was all about bringing honour to your clan. With the emphasis on the collective, the sense of self blurred so much that it practically didn’t exist. In fact individualism was seen as immoral.

Are you a member of Combat 8 or or the KKK?

Unbelievable racism in you reply.

It’s combat 18 I believe. Unless the mma comp - combat 8 is racist. Combat 18 is or was a racist group of British origin and spread around a bit.

Not just Thai males. 'Face' is an Asian concept that most Westerners can't understand.

'Face' is as important to Asians as Westerners' 'self'. Neither is better than the other, just different culture.

In the west it is called pride. Have you no pride letting him hit you. Same same but different.

this could have been settled in the ring. no one arrested  no one dead. end of story

or 1 on 1 in a circle of friends

shame. why his friends  help him commit murder over a fist fight?

probably more to it like most stories

Something tells me you're the type of guy who will tell a Thai guy to shave his head and become a monk,  to atone for killing or beating on his wife & kids (especially step kids) or fatally stabbing another human being.

If that doesn't work, can always run and hide behind Mommy's skirt, right?
