Swift justice - argumentative drunk driver in custody after blocking an ambulance on the highway

Police have arrested a drunk driver who blocked an ambulance in Samut Prakan last night.

The man deliberately tried to impede the progress of the ambulance that was on its way to help a 46 year old man with respiratory failure who subsequently died.

The drunk driver was shown on video getting the ambulance to stop. In a foul mouthed tirade he then blamed the ambulance driver for driving too close and having his siren blazing and horn sounding for no good reason.

The crew told him they were on their way to pick up a sick person but he wouldn't believe them. He drove off and later even called the ambulance call center to make a complaint about THEIR behavior saying they were driving too slowly for it to be a real emergency.

This prompted the ambulance and rescue teams to follow the man to his house in Soi Withayu Karnbin and surround his Altis car.

Muang Samut Prakan police then arrived to take him away despite the protestations of his mother who said they did not have enough for bail.

He was named as 38 year old Samrit Maneerit. He was pale faced and suddenly feeling rather sober when he was taken away, reported 77kaoded.

He was nearly three times over the limit at 190mg. He was charged with DUI and impeding an ambulance.

He may also face charges of dangerous driving.

He has since apologized saying he got things wrong.

drunk driving, dangerous driving and maybe over speeding.... lock him up, remove his DL for the next 5 years, don't let him get away with a 500 baht fine and a Thai waii

Does he even have a license, many Thais don't bother to get one as a lot of them think drivers licences are  something Farangs want so they don't bother to get one. Besides that the police dont enforce the law and a quick 200 baht and your on your way.

In order for a manslaughter charge, you would have to prove the delay and only delay of care caused the patient’s death...very difficult to do...

I can agree to a certain extent with what you say, the OP doesn't state how long the ambulance was delayed getting to the patient, 5 mins, 10 mins ?? Maybe more, pretty sure that if they ask a Dr for an opinion he could confirm one way or another.????

Had enough money to get himself 3 times over the limit at 190mg. And that is after he got home...

No money for bail? No bail then...Easy peasy.

Progress  is slow  but is improving.

Not so many years ago this would not have even been considered  news !

Now  not only is this ignoramus in custody but the base  reason is publicly  explained.

If, as it should, progress to a court  case his sentence  should be several months compulsory  unpaid occupational attendance in an  Emergency Admissions Hospital unit in the  hours of  darkness.
