Lockdowns now in four provinces

Four provinces that are facing the risk of a new wave of Covid-19 infections have officially imposed lockdown measures to keep the coronavirus from spreading.

 

Samut Sakhon stepped up preventive measures, declaring that the province is now a "quarantined area" from December 19 to January 3.

 

Various public venues such as sports stadiums, public parks and educational institutions are now closed. Restaurants have only a takeaway option and grocery shops must be closed from 10pm to 5am.

 

Samut Songkram announced a lockdown on Wednesday, which will stay in effect until January 4, resulting in a closure of public venues and the cancellation of New Year festivities.

 

Samut Prakan also has also gone into lockdown – from December 23 to January 4, closing public venues and cancelling all public events.

 

Chiang Mai has meanwhile clamped a lockdown in three subdistricts – Tha Ton, Malika and Mae Ai.

Whatever restrictions are enacted to  control and eliminate the spread of the COVID-19 are welcomed by me if they're successful.     I'm not a fan of big government but I am a fan of doing whatever is necessary  to end this thing.

Vaccines is the only thing that will mostly end this thing but only if over 70% of the population gets it .

No but it makes sense to try and reduce the infection rate by limiting "out of hours" trading.

If you're doing some grocery shopping at 2am, chances are social distancing comes naturally.

 

Instead, you're taking those few folks who might shop after work at 2200 to 0400 and throw them into the crowded hours.

You will not "end this thing" with a lockdown, proof is we are here again in the same situation of March.

I think lockdown in all likelihood, but the big dilemma for the government must be whether to impose before during or after the New Year migrations across the kingdom. Anyone of those options has huge dangers; we are already seeing infections arising in unexpected locations based on small incidences of cross-province traffic. I know several people in Bangkok who have "gone to the beaches" for Christmas already; they might be spending a bit more time there than they originally intended.

If they lock down right now, 6 weeks might be enough. After New Year they'll need 10 to 12 weeks again. So what's better for the economy?
