Household items to stock during a lockdown

Bangkokbiznews on Wednesday advised households to buy six items if a new lockdown is imposed to control fresh outbreaks of Covid-19.

 

The media outlet listed the following items to keep at home in case restrictions are tightened in the coming weeks:

 

Drinking water: Water is a basic necessity since failing to drink it for three successive days can be fatal. People are advised to buy a large pack of drinking water bottles from the supermarket.

 

Dried foods: Everyone should keep this item in storage at home while self-isolating. Dried foods can be consumed at home instead of ordering food online, so as to prevent spreading the virus to others.

 

Canned foods: Buying canned foods to cope with an emergency situation is a good idea, since they will last for a long time.

 

Chocolate: Flavonoid in chocolate can help relieve stress during the lockdown.

 

Beans: Beans can be consumed instead of meat as an important source of protein and a healthy diet option. Soybean is rich in protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamin B.

 

Cereals: Cereals help fill the stomach, are easy to digest, and are affordably priced. Most importantly, family members of every age can eat cereals.

 

Covid-19 insurance policies: Bangkokbiznews recommends buying medical and other coverage against Covid-19. Policies with various different insurance plans and cheap premiums are available. People can buy up to two insurance policies per person.

Based on the above list of things to 'stock up on' I reckon we're talking about a full on China style lockdown, I give it 4 or 5 days before it happens.

I noticed yesterday in Big C, same as with the previous lockdown, that all bread was sold out.

 

Thais don't eat bread, so clearly foreigners in panic mode

I already had some Xmas booze in but did get a months extra supply in at the same time.

I could still get every day through the last ban, but prefer to save myself the grief.

Have 2 fridges and 2 freezers so one good shop and I can sit home happy for quite some time, as long as the power doesn't go out of course.

I agree that it could get very restricted quite quickly if the situation continues to deteriorate over the next couple of days.

They didn't mention bog roll, as it is mostly only us that buys it I guess, so probably less of a dare I say it, "run" on the item?

Yes Thais eat little bread, but their main food is rice, so they certainly not gonna stock up on the expensive bread varieties available at Big C extra.

I wonder if the hardware stores could cope if the list include buying a spare bum gun, in case the one you have poo's itself?

Wow, if they posted this either someone is in the know regarding the specially announced CCSA meeting tomorrow or is just trying to re-assure people not to panic buy.

Not that is  of  great quality but the first bread sold out in many outlets is the  multi grain  or  wheat/whole meal bread that I have noticed. Thai also have a liking for those pre -made white bread items wrapped in plastic containing an ever  decreasing smear of various  vague fillings. Most supermarkets now have an on-site  bakery that pumps  out bread like items  in quantities that any local non Thai  could never  cope in  consumption.

Thai do  eat bread. Just not the  floury lead brick style preferred by  many Europeans.

I've also got two tins of beans and half an onion in the fridge.

You are FN joking the Farmhouse delivery is made about 1100am to my local Big C about 75 White and 25 Brown/Wholemeal by 1200 you're lucky if there are 3 white left every day, Tesco's, half a dozen 7-11's and a few other shops are the same and there are only about a dozen farangs left in my area.

It's like the fantasy my wife likes to tell me Thai's don't eat cheese, but whenever she orders a pizza, it is always the same extra cheese please
