Recommended Posts

Ok, firstly sorry if this is already out there. I'm doing this on my phone and already tipsy...

The young lady in 7Eleven just told me that they can't sell booze from Dec27 - Jan4.

Don't blame me for being wrong or thank me for saving you.

This article from two days ago below says you are correct.

Supermarkets and 7/11 etc requested not to sell to reduce the road deaths and covid spead on those dates.

This article from yesterday says you are wrong and there is no need to stock up.
No such law.

I hope that clears it all up for you.

Not really, it confirms only that the left hand is not aware of the right hand

They were merely requested not to sell alcohol. Looks like some places, like the 7/11 he went into may be complying with that request as a good corporate citizen. 7/11 also strictly follow the time rules normally. They make more money on sales of other goods anyway, as do supermarkets.

Places like pubs and bars make most of their money from alcohol sales, so will ignore the request and still be open.

And the so called “Mom and Pop/Dad” stores will ignore that request also as they always do, keeping their regular customers happy.

So my conclusion is, you will still be able to get on it those days in pubs, bars and restaurants, but perhaps if you want takeaways some 7/11s and supermarkets might not be selling it.

PS I have no idea why some farangs call these village shops “Mom and Pop/Dad” shops. I have never heard a Thai use that expression ever to describe the village shops that way.

That's because Falangies see that Mom & Pops own the shop also live and raise their children there.

To Thais there just a Thai family who have a shop at their house.
