Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow

Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow has maintained his forecast of growth above 4 per cent for Thailand’s economy next year, citing the availability of Covid-19 vaccines.

The vaccines will mean Thailand can open to foreign tourists and also reduce the quarantine period from 14 days, he added.

Most experts predict an expansion of 3-4 per cent next year.

Supattanapong said the fresh virus outbreak was limited to certain areas of the country, and the government could control the situation.

While the lockdown in Samut Sakhon, where the outbreak emerged, may cost the country about Bt50 billion, the damage was small compared to Thailand’s GDP of Bt12.6 trillion, he said.

He also maintained his forecast of 6 per cent contraction for the Thai economy this year, in line with the National Economic and Social Development Council’s projection.

I really do not like the idea of taking out 6000 baht from your 100k baht in the bank this year and and then patting yourself on the back as you've grown your bank balance 4% the following your when you put 4000 baht back in.

The way things are going not many will have the time, incentive or finances to travel next year.

Sounds exactly like what he is saying.  The man's a tool if he believes Thailand's GDP will be what he says as well.  Nontourism, exports down and yep you guessed it, the economy in inflation.

You don't know what your talking about

Consumer prices in Thailand fell by 0.41 percent year-on-year in November 2020, after a 0.5 percent drop a month earlier and roughly matching market forecasts. This was the ninth straight month of deflation

-4 and perhaps adding a zero would be a more precise prediction. International tourism will be as good as dead for years since most people can hardly get by and feed their family, let alone accumulate savings. Most travel operators, transport sectors and small/medium hotels, restaurants and other tourism or catering businesses within Thailand are already belly up. To recover and repair this massive destruction will take years, if not a decade. I am sick and tired of those muppets in their ivory towers who are completely disconnected from reality.

Even before Covid Thailand was in a nose dive infact since the country was stolen. But, hay ho let's lie, lie, lie and the people will believe what we say.

can reduce ???

But when is Thailand getting the vaccine? The faster, the better. Tourists are not going to come to Thailand without knowing that it is safe from infections, even if they are vaccinated. It really is of UTMOST importance for Thailand to try to get approved vaccines SOONEST!!!!

he's a believer ???????????? he doesn't know the vaccine will not cure the virus and it takes quite some time to vaccine people thus any potential positive outcome would be ???? anybody's guess 555

Huh? Where in your previous post I quoted does it say predicted?

I always stop digging whem I screw up. Trying to save a post at any cost just looks silly

Predicated not predicted. Look up the words. In my post I never used predicted but the way the post is written is a predicated action.

I'm forecasting the opposite.  Tons of pent up demand from people who haven't been able to travel in 2020.

We'll see who's right...  Thailand could thrive on blue balls alone.
