Agents sort all the paperwork out ready for the IO's to rubber stamp. And show "their appreciation" as they normally jump the queue and maybe by-pass the odd rules here and there, according to some.

Win Win for them. Just more expensive for the foreigner, but no one worries or cares about that!

Odd rules like retirement with insufficient income and no 800k in the bank.

Odd as in a few, not all, rather than odd as in peculiar ????

I showed a example of the letter showing the 12 months of transfers to a bank branch here last year when I did my first extension using the new method to prove income and they said they could not do one.

I have used a bank statement twice but the account I use is only for the transfers into the country and then I transfer it to another account. Only 5 pages of statements to prove my transfers.

I would suggest anybody proving the transfers to set up an account for regular banking and the other for the transfers.

Due to a PEA ruling I have to pay my electricity from the same account as the incoming funds but it was still within 2 pages for the 12 months. With TMB it is 19 statement lines/page.

As in any application, it is in the applicants interest to make supporting information as easily understood as possible, irrespective of any perceived rights.

Making life difficult for an IO doesn't help anyone.

After reading your experience, and from my last terrible experience, I'm going to use an agent from now on. No more trips to IO - I never want to see there greedy little smug faces again, and I never want to sit in their dreary offices for hours on end again. At least yours was done in ten mins. In Ubon city center, you can wait for hours.

Congrats for getting it done, and at least they didn't sting you for too much cash!

You still have to go in, there is a photo they need taken.

update 2:

1.) the io did not recommend to change to marriage. he pushed for retirement.

2.) to open a new bank account, i needed a letter from the io (bath 600)

3.) the bank employee complaint that the immigration is causing them headaches lately with so many farangs having to open separate accounts. looks it's not only one being confronted with "new rules".

4.) i heart your opinions, but here's the choise:

- fighting windmills

- baht 4,000

- baht 15,000

you decide by yourself.

with 72 i'm not a decent windmill-fighter anymore.

my wife and my two lovely daughters appreciate to be save, even if it is the thai way.

i'm with you to form a "farang union", hire a law firm and stand the grounds!

would  cost him more .... as another middle man involved than direct IO boss settlement ,.... long live the 800K on bank system  .???? never a problem arise in  8 years...no headache ever and flash serviced  ,and no agent needed ...... (as i do my own " legwork" ????..)

You are 100% correct but what can one do when they keep throwing road blocks at you ? Tell them that I saw on Thai Visa that what your asking for is not correct ? Again I agree with you but sometimes there is no choice as they will find yet another reason to deny once you have corrected the original reason for rejection.

I did the 1 year extension for a friend who was in the hospital. The IO just took a photo of the photo in the passport.

At most banks/branches you don't need this letter

Here somebody else who was confronted with "new rules" in Udon Thani, just that he was told that the money has to be in just one account and not two, the opposite of what they told you:

This appears to be a standard requirement. The same happened to me in Sakon Nakhon. Like you @jensmannI am married, so I was able to switch to an application by marriage. That's probably what they want to discuss with your wife.

I was using Udon Thani for a few years and I found them quite helpful. Don't despair. ????

I used to be in SN, immigration charged me 1000bht for each residency letter to buy truck and motorbike. lol

Nothing unusual about that.

I'd say the usual price is 300bht for residency letter not 1000 bht. How much are you paying?

That's the point of the OP they are saying now income must be in one account and the balance in another

sorry to differ but i was told this week that my money must be in one account for the combination method , this was in Udon Thani and my first and only dealings with this

office, Jomtien just need the correct amounts, they do not dictate one bank or two

the fact that they kept all my statements and paperwork tells a story. never again.

will contact local Farang Solicitor if any dealings in the future.

I was charged the same as you whilst I was in Udon Thani. Now I have a yellow house book and pay nothing. ????

If by usual you mean living in the Pataya area.... and using that office. Residence letters seems to vary around Thailand.

Isn't the official price free, and many claim an expediency charge. ????

well, thailand j, now i have 3 bank accounts! switching back to 2 or 1 is easier than the other way.

but i would prefer marriage. the stories about this method are also not motivating. i will watch it....

hope the evel guys disqualify themselves...

about agent:

i watched this io who dealt with tons of the agent clients. the agent sents her photos via line. she holds her phone in the camera to get the pics in the system.

...and this in public. smart may?

Don't think it is arbitrary at all. When you have it in the same account, you will use the monthly 50K twice:

1) 12 x 50K

2) keep your balance on 200K

It's not arbitrary, but simply stupidity/incompetence from the officer handling the application, not able to read/understand the bank-book details..

Using the monthly income 50K to ensure that you do not drop below 200K is no problem at all, as you only need to show that you did receive each and every month 50K on your account, and that during the full period of 12 months that your balance did not not drop below 200K.

absolutely peter denis. that's excactl what the io did by  my second run. took her about 10 sec to run her finger down the right side for the balance and in the middle for the income

as i said: about 10 min for my extention stamp.

Agents are the way to go if you have the cash. When my agent drove me to Immigration, they greeted her like an old friend and I got "red carpet" service when I forked over 15 thousand baht and my passport. I did not show any documentation. In fact, the agent told me to leave it in her office. I do like the idea of waiving all the rules in exchange for cash.  I wonder if there's any chance of Biden's appointee for Thai Ambassador, restoring the previous system?

That's an interesting comment. I've twice had retirement extensions knocked back even though I actually satisfied the financial requirements. Interestingly the first time was at this same office, Udon Thani.

On both occasions I was steered toward a marriage extension. So you could be right.

well that is quite funny ? as the first thing they mentioned was a ''married'' visa ?

that is the absolute opposite to what they push in Jomtien ? must be a reason?
