Not sure they would make a ripple on these characters. Extraordinary wealth a Australian general could only dream of. And his seen war ????

Don't know about $3mill parcels of land purchased by gov for $38mill..grants of $500mill that were never asked for ..sports club grants to their locals..a PM who gives himself $42k pay rise same day he strips millions of employees penalty rates in hospitality etc..dont charge taxes to huge corporate miners while they rape Australia..and feather themselves with absurd tax free pensions while they enjoy the job they have featured in the private sector usually consulting 1 day per month for $500 k per year..I have to stop soon my typing finger hurts..but I heard the comment about Prayut's education and I ask do the English feel better being totally ripped off by private school silver spoon fed idiots.Or US where a candidate must have a personal fortune of $10mill to stand and you end up with Trump, Reagan etc...Dont you just love how well Democrazy is working.

Sihanoukville 2 ... Waiting to happen.

Ripe for the picking.

Gogo's would become Chinese karaoke bars, and the restaurants would cater for Chinese package tour groups only.

He was a crook as was his sister. Let's not look back to his time through rose tinted glasses. You may argue that things haven't changed much, and you may be right, but he was no better.

Yet, you do not attack the current administration with as much vigor.  Why is that?

Not until gambling becomes legal, which is never.

Regime doesn't give a thought to hookers bars and scum. Not interested. Go home work

I am sure there are many local politicians, Thai landlords, and police, in the tourist areas of Thailand, who do not share that view.

They are also part of the regime's problem. Police keep the loot. That will also change in time.

They're all at it. People don't realise that there are far more girls servicing Thais than Farangs. Remember when Big Joke got his car riddled with bullets when visiting a massage parlour?

The main customers of the Thai girls that brought Covid back from a brothel in Myanmar were wealthy Thais.

8 years living in Thailand and l.speak full Thai. The girls you refer to are the C graders. The A grade don't like Somchai.

Well of track. They pay 500 baht or free. The very few high rolling old Thais yes they pay. It's all over in 20 minutes

What's the connection between gambling and Chinese karaoke bars and restaurants?

12 months from now, when Walking Street is on its knees, wealthy Chinese can come in and buy up.

Gogo's are easily converted into Chinese karaoke bars, and will have Chinese singers working illegally in them.  The restaurants are on the water, and will be for Chinese tour group operators only.

Eventually, any remaining gogo's or restaurants sell, as Walking Street becomes known as China Town Pattaya.

The corrupt Thai's involved will have no problem with this as high / low seasons are not an issue, and the rent, and tea money, is paid on time, every month.

A lot of the girls serving Thai's are also from other countries in South East Asia.   No work permit needed.  ????

You don't see any comparison between what Thailand has now, and the military junta in Myanmar?

I speak Thai and conversational Lao/Issan. You're way off mark. A cheap brothel in a regional town you may get away with 500 baht. In a Thai Gentlemens club in Bangkok, you'll be lucky to come away with less than 10k baht. Some of them are so busy with Hi So Thais that you have to book in advance. Most of the girls will only go with Thai men.

Why do you think that the girls went to a brothel in Mayanmar? Big money.

Its more to do with Pattaya being Sihanoukville 2. It only took off when Hun Sen did a deal with the Chinese to allow them to build casinos. Now more than 70 high end Chinese casinos there. The big fella will never allow gambling to become legal in Thailand.

He may, he may not, but what has that got to do with the Chinese buying up covid distressed assets in Pattaya, on mass, and turning them into Chinese orientated establishments?

I believe they were hooking out of casinos there, serving wealthy Thai's, who also crossed the boarder illegally.

They wouldn't get the customers. Walking street is for the Chinese flag followers. Moneyed Chinese want casinos when they go on holiday. For gambling, the most obsessed race in the world.

Yep, they were the on tap totty for the casino goers. Same in Sihanoukville.

Sorry if this comes off as a rant, but all these people going on about how "covid is the death of walking street" completely overlook these 'youtubers' who just film everything and everyone a post it online. That just killed it - like who wants to fly halfway round the world just to be videoed talking to hookers? I get it - it's a public place, anything can be filmed etc etc but seriously, it really killed the vibe LONG before covid was a thing.

True, but there are hundreds of millions of Chinese gaining enough wealth to be able to have a cheap holiday to a different country.  We saw this pre covid.  The Chinese made up the bulk of the tourist stats here.

It's these Chinese that the tour operators will be buying up assets for here.

There are a huge amount of businesses for sale here now.  The Chinese can wait, then buy up big.

It's not impossible that Pattaya can head down the same path as Sihanoukville, without casinos, for the growing middle class of Chinese.

Thailand is losing soooooooo much money by not offering casinos.  Even Thai citizens are gambling in neighbouring countries, further strengthening Thailand's competition.

Actually, same as the zero baht tours, most of the money made in Shianokville went straight back to China. They even ended up with Chinese street vendors.

I didn't say that did I?

In Myanmar, there has been violent suppression of the people by the Military for many decades , murder, rape and ethnic cleansing of minority Muslims, violence and destruction against the Monkhood, systematic censorship of all communications, extreme xenophobia,  little to no investment in Nationwide infrastructure for the benefit and advancement of the people; none of these things has happened in Thailand.  As I said before, to compare the two regimes is ridiculous.

True, but a lot of Chinese use Sihanoukville casinos as a way of getting their money out of China.

The profits for such services are repatriated back to China, but many use the casinos there to convert their money in USD, in a foreign country, and from there, they can move their money any country in the world, out of the reach of "Big Brother."

You don't even have to gamble in the casino to avail yourself of this "tourism service."

So...................is that a yes, or no?

Thailand had a military coup.   Something like 90 Thai citizens shot and killed.   Sounds pretty violent to me.

systematic censorship of all communications,

One gateway for the internet here.  This is designed so the Thai government can pull the plug at any time.

9 hours ago, Pilotman said:

extreme xenophobia,

Dirty foreigners spreading covid.   What more can be said about a comment like that, from a senior minister of the Thai government?

9 hours ago, Pilotman said:

The Thai government has invested in their family and friends getting contracts for such infrastructure projects, which are over inflated, and poorly constructed, thus lending themselves to further lucrative maintenance contracts well into the future.  This corruption scams every Thai tax payer.

Perhaps broaden your view, you may see it's not so ridiculous.
