May 10, 200718 yr Southern region warned of landslide and flash flood The Department of Mineral Resources warns Southern residents of more landslides and flash floods. Director-General of the Department of Mineral Resources Aphichai Chawacharoenphan (อภิชัย ชวเจริญพันธ์) reports that landslides and flash floods are expected at areas around mountain ranges in Phuket, Phangnga, Krabi, Trang, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla provinces. The director-general says the continuous heavy rain during this period in the Southern region is the cause of landslide and flash flood. Residents are warned to be cautious against soil and rocks which might fall from the cliff above the road. Mr Aphichai also calls for local disaster volunteers to keep abreast of warnings of landslide from the department. May 11, 200718 yr Author All PRD offices in southern region urged to remain alert to natural disasters The Deputy Director General of the Public Relations Department urged all agencies to closely monitor natural disaster situations in order to alert local residents in a timely manner. Public Relations Deputy Director General Mrs. Patreeya Sumano (ภัทรียา สุมะโน) delivered policy to public relation offices in the 7 southern provinces instructing officials to closely monitor rainfall and monsoon conditions during this period in order to provide information and alerts to citizens should a natural disaster occur. Mrs. Patreeya added that the Public Relations Department will undergo a restructuring of civil servant affairs for all officials on duty in the upper southern region. May 11, 200718 yr Author Heavy rains in the southwestern coast and the North The Meteorological Department reports that a rather active southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf. Abundant rainfall is expected over Thailand while heavy rains in many places, including high waves in the Andaman Sea, occurs in southwestern coast of the country. People in the provinces of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi should beware of heavy rain, and all ships especially in the Andaman Sea should proceed with caution during this period. 60 percent of the northern region will see thundershowers and heavy rains from 6 AM of today to 6 AM of tomorrow. Most rainfall will take place in the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, and Phitsanulok. Almost widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rains can be seen in the northern region. Minimum temperature is around 23 degrees Celsius while maximum temperature is about 34 degrees Celsius. The speed of southwesterly winds is approximately 10 to 20 kilometers per hour.
