BEIJING (Reuters) - A World Health Organization (WHO) team of international experts investigating the origin of the novel coronavirus will arrive in the Chinese city of Wuhan from Singapore on Thursday, a Chinese official said.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said his organisation looked forward to working with China on the mission to identify the source of the virus and how it entered the human population.

He had previously said he was "very disappointed" when the experts were denied entry earlier in the month, forcing two members of the team to turn back. China said there had been a "misunderstanding".

"According to the current plan, they will fly from Singapore to Wuhan on January 14," foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a regular news briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

He did not respond to a question on whether the team would have to go into quarantine upon arrival and gave no further details on the mission's itinerary.

The coronavirus was first detected in the central city of Wuhan in late 2019 and has since spread around the world, infecting more than 90,500,000 people and killing nearly 2 million.

Much remains unknown about its origins and China has been sensitive about suspicion of a cover-up that delayed its initial response and allowed the virus to spread.

Ahead of the team's visit, China has been seeking to shape the narrative about when and where the pandemic began, with senior diplomat Wang Yi saying "more and more studies" showed it emerged in multiple regions.

A health expert affiliated with the WHO said previously that expectations should be "very low" that the team would reach a conclusion from its trip to China.

Just a show for the media.

Nothing will be found in China and WHO knows it.

If that team find anything that proves the virus originated from China i will be extremely surprised.

The origin of the virus will be found.  Whether it is WHO or not, I have no idea, but over the next few years, there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of graduate students working on their Master's or Ph.D thesis in a whole array of specialties that will look at this virus from every angle.   They will probe the chemical makeup, they will compare it to other viruses, they will look at similarities and differences.  There are also a lot of the same grad students in various aspects of animal and environmental studies doing similar research.

All those pieces will eventually make the picture much clearer.

The difference is one is how science works and other is how politics works.

I don't think they every 100% certified the source of the first SARS virus?  Civet cat, bat...they has been no definitive answer yet.  So, not sure they will find the source this time either.

The Chinese do have research teams tracking down the virus.  But it's not in the news and kept highly secret.  Figures.  They lied about SARS-CoV-1, they lied about SARS-CoV-2.

In the end, stop selling live wild and endangered animals in wet markets.  Problem solved.  Until the next deadly virus comes out of the forest from another location.

It's like going to a murder seen that happen a year ago and trying to find clues. I am sure the Chinese will show WHO where to look and what to say. And after it is all done maybe they can be friends with Australia again as they are freezing their butts off by canceling Australian coal.

Not an easy job, but one they are already undertaking...trying to find the source for the virus.  And yes, the WHO team will be tightly controlled.

I do believe China is also boycotting OZ wine?

This is nothing more than a choreographed investigation.

China will not be opening their books....the WHO needs some credibility boost....reports will be drawn up afterwards....awards will be handed out...there will be no conclusion and everyone will be happy!

Hopefully that is enough time for the Chinese to translate the final WHO report they wrote into English before they have to give it to WHO team. All they will need to do is add a few staged photos into the report and send it to Emperor XI for approval before they WHO can release it to the world.

Science seldom makes a 100% conclusion, but they are likely to lead us to a pretty reasonable conclusion.   Even the 1918 epidemic has not been 100% established, but they the possibilities have been narrowed.  Ebola is the same.  They have narrowed it down, but what animal holds the reservoir is not fully established.

I suspect they will determine if it is lab made or natural and if natural, the host animal.  It takes a long time, but I suspect we are going to have some pretty good ideas based on facts.

Nothing will be found, the communists have had more than a year to complete the cover up!
