It seems that's the way these people think. And it won't change until more influential people, including all those GOP politicians stand up and tell the truth.

Will be a snowball in hell that those radicalized GOP lawmakers will stand up and tell the truth. The sedition caucus lead by House Minority McCarthy and Senators like Ted Cruz and Hawley will continue with their bad behavior for their political expediency. Then you have real nut Qanon lawmaker like Majorie Green who will continue with her pursuit of conspiracy theories like this crazy stunt of filing articles of impeachment right after Biden inauguration. The nut train will not stop and will continue to be incendiary and sow division with citizen Trump, family and his allies fanning the flame. Trump laid a big dump on USA and will be tough for Joe to clean up.

I saw a talking head make a frightening observation yesterday that subsequent elections will probably result in more Qanon extremists. HOW the HELL people can vote for these tinfoil hat wearing losers is a poignant statement on US society. ????

As scary as it is to have to be in the House and call these bozos 'colleagues', imagine what it's like for sane and rational people who live in the districts filled with so many loons that a majority would elect someone like the QAnon moonbats?

I have long wondered what happened during the Dark Ages and if history could repeat. Now I know it can.....and has.

I suggest there is strong involvement from Christian weirdos given the refences to Satan and so on in the messaging, just as there was in the Middle Ages.

If yes then IMHO there's a case that society has failed these people and they are products of that failure, and something should be done to ensure they have better knowledge and understanding.

They will have PLENTY of time at the grey bar hotel to better themselves.

So the media were lying for the past few years, they always said Trump supporters were red necked knuckle dragging deplorables, yet they were decent Americans with careers, service records and Olympic medals who just happened to be republicans.

What is decent about a violent riot at the capitol?

Not a brain cell between them.

Here's your 'decent' American with a service record.  What an embarassment to America.  And headed to jail.

A federal prosecutor in Texas also said on Thursday that a retired Air Force officer who stormed the Senate chamber dressed in military-style clothing and holding zip ties had intended to “take hostages.”

The retired officer, Larry Rendell Brock, was arrested in Texas on Sunday on one count of unlawfully entering a restricted building and another of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, the Justice Department said at the time.

“He means to take hostages,” the Texas prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Weimer, said on Thursday, The Associated Press reported. “He means to kidnap, restrain, perhaps try, perhaps execute members of the U.S. government.”

I see this as making him easy recruit for a group that could serve as a replacement for his old sport. In his new political group he would be treated as a hero, revered and given the status he craved.  No, I do not explain away what he did, but suggest that he is example of why some outwardly good people  are so easy to join not so good groups

I do believe the point you make, above, is valid because it's what drives waywards and misfits to join "gangs", and not to get off track too much, it's exactly the reason why many of the poor and uneducated in New Zealand, join the likes of the "mongrel mob", because they want to feel part of something and also get some status, which they achieve through carrying out robberies and murders.

I can see this being the rationale for the underprivileged and poorly educated, but for the politicians who are supposedly "intelligent", it is beyond belief.

No, just happened to be knuckle draggers. You don't need a brain to be in the US military (it actually helps if you haven't) or to win an Olympic medal.

Mark Leffingwell of Seattle, who faces charges for assaulting a police officer, is an Iraq war veteran who suffers from PTSD and traumatic brain injury, his lawyer told a judge. Richard Barnett, photographed sitting in U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office, told the judge he has a history of depressive disorder.

Court documents did not show whether Barnett had entered a plea. Barnett’s lawyer, Anthony Siano, declined to comment beyond confirming the details of court proceedings.

Lonnie Coffman, a 70-year-old Alabama man arrested for having explosives in his truck, takes multiple drugs for mental illness, his lawyer told the judge in a hearing this week. Coffman pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.

Yep, and they're all united in their love for one man... a kindred spirit in delusion and derangement.  A telling set of endorsements.

And this... Fine upstanding citizens all....  :ninja:

Dozens of people on FBI terrorist watch list came to D.C. the day of Capitol riot

Dozens of people on a terrorist watch list were in Washington for pro-Trump events Jan. 6, a day that ended in a chaotic crime rampage when a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, according to people familiar with evidence gathered in the FBI’s investigation.

The majority of the watch-listed individuals in Washington that day are suspected white supremacists whose past conduct so alarmed investigators that their names had been previously entered into the national Terrorist Screening Database, or TSDB, a massive set of names flagged as potential security risks, these people said.

The watch list is larger and separate from the “no-fly” list the government maintains to prevent terrorism suspects from boarding airplanes, and those listed are not automatically barred from any public or commercial spaces, current and former officials said.

Trump is a liar,  but over 74M people trust him.

Trump is a cheating loser but  over 74M people have put their faith in the predictions he made months before the elections that he statistically could not lose, therefore, Trump won.

Trump relies on conspiracists, white supremacists, neo-nazis all thugs he has empowered and  over 74M people, preys,  don't mind sitting next to them.

Bannon's "Unite the Right" dream  Trump made come true

Up to you. I'll give them a very wide berth.
