It seems that's the way these people think. And it won't change until more influential people, including all those GOP politicians stand up and tell the truth.

Will be a snowball in hell that those radicalized GOP lawmakers will stand up and tell the truth. The sedition caucus lead by House Minority McCarthy and Senators like Ted Cruz and Hawley will continue with their bad behavior for their political expediency. Then you have real nut Qanon lawmaker like Majorie Green who will continue with her pursuit of conspiracy theories like this crazy stunt of filing articles of impeachment right after Biden inauguration. The nut train will not stop and will continue to be incendiary and sow division with citizen Trump, family and his allies fanning the flame. Trump laid a big dump on USA and will be tough for Joe to clean up.

OMG - The Qanon shaman is requesting a pardon from 45.

So many questions...

assume he packs his spear and horns in checked baggage?

what do the checked baggage x-ray screeners think when the see a spear?

does he wear regular clothing when he flies?

does his mom still give him an allowance?

I saw a talking head make a frightening observation yesterday that subsequent elections will probably result in more Qanon extremists. HOW the HELL people can vote for these tinfoil hat wearing losers is a poignant statement on US society. ????

As scary as it is to have to be in the House and call these bozos 'colleagues', imagine what it's like for sane and rational people who live in the districts filled with so many loons that a majority would elect someone like the QAnon moonbats?

I have long wondered what happened during the Dark Ages and if history could repeat. Now I know it can.....and has.

First we learned Republicans would stick with 45 if he shot somebody on Fifth Avenue.

Now we learn Republicans will stick with 45 when a cop is murdered in the Capitol.

Another fraudulent attempt at false equivalence. What is there on the Left that corresponds to Qanon, OAN, Newsmax,  The Epoch Times, The Gateway Pundit, Alex Jones, and the  entire lunatic ecosystem of dishonest right wing videos?

Answer: Nothing.  It's just the radical right that spews violence and nonsense.

I suggest there is strong involvement from Christian weirdos given the refences to Satan and so on in the messaging, just as there was in the Middle Ages.

Seems to me there's also a need to fully understand why these folks so easily believe rubbish, often not even logical:

- Does it come from their observations and immersion in their early childhood?

- Or from feeling not included in mainstream society?

- Or not having enough basic education to be successful in mainstream society?

- Lack of understanding of the value of building and maintaining a civil society, the importance of human rights/respect/responsibilities of/for all citizens,

and more...

Trump seems to have taken deep advantage of all of this and is pure evil in his intent and his strategies.

If yes then IMHO there's a case that society has failed these people and they are products of that failure, and something should be done to ensure they have better knowledge and understanding.

So the media were lying for the past few years, they always said Trump supporters were red necked knuckle dragging deplorables, yet they were decent Americans with careers, service records and Olympic medals who just happened to be republicans.

I have looked closely at some of these people and to me it looks like some are mentally ill. Not deranged enough to meet definition of criminally insane, but to me at least, having psychological illness like paranoia, and other sad conditions.

Much is  being made about the ex Olympic athlete klete Keller but when you look at him, it is a sad story and he is like the text book definition of who joins a cult.

- He had  success and happiness as a member of a close knit team, the 800m free relay swim team that won 2 gold medals.

-  After Olympic career he says he struggled to adjust. He missed the tight group of the  swim world team and its sense of purpose.

- In interviews with the Olympic Channel podcast and USA Swimming, described himself as a poor employee and that he felt entitled to position and perks because of his athletic success.

- He had domestic problems and  described himself as selfish and a bad father  which caused his marriage to fail and resulted in a divorce that left him living in his car for 10 months and the loss of visitation rights for his children.

- He has put on weight, and looks unhappy in life.

I see this as making him easy recruit for a group that could serve as a replacement for his old sport. In his new political group he would be treated as a hero, revered and given the status he craved.  No, I do not explain away what he did, but suggest that he is example of why some outwardly good people  are so easy to join not so good groups. Even greats like Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe had struggle with mental health problems and dependency. Not everyone can cope.

They were right about Trump supporters not being very smart.  Especially the ones who just invaded the capitol.

These decent Americans you're talking about are the ones who were just arrested breaking into the capitol?  Where a cop was killed and many more injured?  Right...such nice people.  ????

Because they see it in their news and they hear and see almost all GOP politicians repeating the lies.

Now that's a surprising thing for me, in as much as the GOP politicians are repeating the lies and obviously they seem to believe them!

As an example a couple of nights ago on the BBC News, they interviewed a member of the Republican party, a strategist I believe, and when asked about the riots and if Trump and his entourage encouraging these people, caused them, she repeatedly used the line, "well you have to get it into perspective", and when the interviewer questioned what she meant, she just kept referring to it, meaning the perspective of the election being stolen!

And again last night, a member of the Republican party being interviewed was skirting around the issue of the riots, mentioning Antifa, amongst others, was asked the question by an irate interviewer, "do you think that some of the blame could be laid at Trump's feet for inciting this riot?" – – And the answer was no!

So there you have two senior members of the Republican party still refusing to lay blame where it so rightly sits, and it was quite obvious that they believed they were completely in the right and that Trump had done no wrong!

Is it any wonder therefore that the rubes out there believe the right-wing propaganda of Trump and associates, when even those in the higher echelons believe it – – seems like the main requirement to be a member of the Republican party is to have very little in the way of intelligence, or even common-sense for that matter.

I mention common-sense because who in their right mind would believe the, "QAnon conspiracy theory, which casts Trump as a savior figure and elite Democrats as a cabal of Satanist pedophiles and cannibals??

What is decent about a violent riot at the capitol?

Not a brain cell between them.

Here's your 'decent' American with a service record.  What an embarassment to America.  And headed to jail.

A federal prosecutor in Texas also said on Thursday that a retired Air Force officer who stormed the Senate chamber dressed in military-style clothing and holding zip ties had intended to “take hostages.”

The retired officer, Larry Rendell Brock, was arrested in Texas on Sunday on one count of unlawfully entering a restricted building and another of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, the Justice Department said at the time.

“He means to take hostages,” the Texas prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Weimer, said on Thursday, The Associated Press reported. “He means to kidnap, restrain, perhaps try, perhaps execute members of the U.S. government.”

I do believe the point you make, above, is valid because it's what drives waywards and misfits to join "gangs", and not to get off track too much, it's exactly the reason why many of the poor and uneducated in New Zealand, join the likes of the "mongrel mob", because they want to feel part of something and also get some status, which they achieve through carrying out robberies and murders.

I can see this being the rationale for the underprivileged and poorly educated, but for the politicians who are supposedly "intelligent", it is beyond belief.

Such nice people.

No, just happened to be knuckle draggers. You don't need a brain to be in the US military (it actually helps if you haven't) or to win an Olympic medal.

Mark Leffingwell of Seattle, who faces charges for assaulting a police officer, is an Iraq war veteran who suffers from PTSD and traumatic brain injury, his lawyer told a judge. Richard Barnett, photographed sitting in U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office, told the judge he has a history of depressive disorder.

Court documents did not show whether Barnett had entered a plea. Barnett’s lawyer, Anthony Siano, declined to comment beyond confirming the details of court proceedings.

Lonnie Coffman, a 70-year-old Alabama man arrested for having explosives in his truck, takes multiple drugs for mental illness, his lawyer told the judge in a hearing this week. Coffman pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.

Yep, and they're all united in their love for one man... a kindred spirit in delusion and derangement.  A telling set of endorsements.

You have omitted evangelicals. Evangelicals, due to their beliefs, express support for trump to achieve their goals. With trumps efforts to gain their support being reflected in some of his political decisions e.g. regarding Israel. We know some of trump's Cabinet are ultra conservative evangelicals as well as a few senior advisors aligned to the far right interpretation of  paleo Conservatism; all of which, IMO, combines to generate a degree of fanaticism within his base. Remember, what we have is a political organisation, in power for four years, which actually accepts members who believe the QAnon BS, lizard people etc etc with a so called leader who is  one of the main generators of conspiracy theories in the US - what possible could go wrong?

And plenty of evidence of just the opposite:

‘We got to hold this door’

How battered D.C. police made a stand against the Capitol mob

...

Someone in the crowd grabbed Fanone’s helmet, pulled him to the ground and dragged him on his stomach down a set of steps. At around the same time, police said, the crowd pulled a second officer down the stairs. Police said that chaotic and violent scene was captured in a video that would later spread widely on the Internet.

Rioters swarmed, battering the officers with metal pipes peeled from scaffolding and a pole with an American flag attached, police said. Both were struck with stun guns. Fanone suffered a mild heart attack and drifted in and out of consciousness.

All the while, the mob was chanting “U.S.A.” over and over and over again. “We got one! We got one!” Fanone said he heard rioters shout. “Kill him with his own gun!”

And this... Fine upstanding citizens all....  :ninja:

Dozens of people on FBI terrorist watch list came to D.C. the day of Capitol riot

Dozens of people on a terrorist watch list were in Washington for pro-Trump events Jan. 6, a day that ended in a chaotic crime rampage when a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, according to people familiar with evidence gathered in the FBI’s investigation.

The majority of the watch-listed individuals in Washington that day are suspected white supremacists whose past conduct so alarmed investigators that their names had been previously entered into the national Terrorist Screening Database, or TSDB, a massive set of names flagged as potential security risks, these people said.

The watch list is larger and separate from the “no-fly” list the government maintains to prevent terrorism suspects from boarding airplanes, and those listed are not automatically barred from any public or commercial spaces, current and former officials said.

Trump is a liar,  but over 74M people trust him.

Trump is a cheating loser but  over 74M people have put their faith in the predictions he made months before the elections that he statistically could not lose, therefore, Trump won.

Trump relies on conspiracists, white supremacists, neo-nazis all thugs he has empowered and  over 74M people, preys,  don't mind sitting next to them.
