Mysteron rings.

Featured Replies

Might it be possible to save these two yellow rings separately, without the backgrounds, enhance, enlarge and make them far more detailed at the same time please?

Generally any decent vector graphic software that has rendering feature, such as CorelDraw could do this quite easily. If that doesn't work out (too hard to clean up), then there's an option to put the small photo (assuming in right proportions) in the background and draw these 4 ellipses over it and merge the lines to make holes in the centre of each. Probably 10 minutes effort for someone skilled. Could use any vector drawing software.

here is a simple beginning...

this attempt assumes you wat to be able to retain some skerrick of the original rings? otherwise the results would simply mean a totally new illustration.  As follows, so far; here are the 'original' Rings sans background, in original positions. Any sharpening would naturally remove the original essence...

Thank you for this attempt. The dimensions of the rings look the same, however the colour of them, or should I say the darkness has changed.

The original is more opaque, and the original effect was meant to be ghost like.

Obviously not easy, but thanks again.

the ghost like effect in itself is created by quite a bit of defocussing/smearing - they're near impossible to separate the rings from the background. The background has all those reflections from the photo of the screen. Was the image itself from a VCR/DVD/Laserdisc or the telly?

If the sequence was from dvd etc then why not play it again on a PC and take a 'prt sc' as at least the master image will be as true as possible, and a better starting point.

I have a motto "there is no such thing as 'cannot" - every problem has a solution therefore a 'cannot' is really a 'challenge'

Somewhere in Storage I still have my old laserdisc of the title Movie...

Have you seen the particular sequence on YouTube etc?

 - pity the new remakes have the Mysteron Rings as Green ones...

@up2you2 what are you actually trying to achieve?

The "real" rings were made by projecting a transparency of the rings onto the set using a slide projector, this meant they followed the contours of whatever object they landed on. Could be an interesting effect to try to replicate in PhotoShop.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

so, I ghosted them up a little...

Mork vs the Necrotons  would be an interesting alternative challenge!  ????
