Officials of Khao Yai National Park were alerted to a person possibly going missing on Thursday after tourists spotted a motorcycle parked at Pha Diew Dai cliff, a famous scenic point in Nakhon Nayok province, for two days with no sign of the owner.

Officials investigated the scene and found the body of Thatchaphong Phongmee, aged 27 years, lying at the bottom of the cliff, which is about 60 metres high. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was a local of Ang Thong province but has been working in Samut Prakarn province. One of his acquaintances reportedly told officials that the deceased had travelled to Khao Yai National Park alone on his motorcycle.

The body of the deceased was brought to Nakhon Nayok Hospital for detailed autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police estimated that it could be either accident or murder.

Thanya Nethithammakul, director-general of the National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department, has said that the scenic point at Pha Diew Dai cliff is a dangerous spot and that the department had proposed to build a railing around the cliff, but many parties had objected to it.

“The department will revisit the railing idea after thoroughly investigating this incident,” he added.

I saw the dead body of a guy who jumped out of the 5th floor of a hotel. It seems that was high enough.

60 metres is not high?????

You can die just from falling down the stairs.

Yeah, if you land on a flat, hard ground, but the cliff in question is on a slope. If I had to guess it’s 60 meters from the top of the cliff to the bottom of The Valley, but from the top to the beginning of the slope it’s considerably less. Either way, obviously it was enough.

Did I say that 60 isn’t high? I’ve said I’ve been there numerous times and the cliff didn’t seem to be that high, meaning 60 meters high. It might be 60 from the top of the cliff to the bottom of the valley, but it’s maybe 20 from the top to the beginning of the slope. If you get the chance then go there and see for yourself. It’s definitely worth visiting Khao Yai.
