Stop throwing it around , there are real racists out there you know!

I think your post is lame, dishonest, and weaselly.

I hope she did.

You seem to be implying that her academic credentials might be bogus.

A headshakingly lame and cringe worthy comment.

But you can’t blame people for questioning it.

When the poster early on this thread sarcastically wrote "I'm sure she got this position based on merit alone..." he wasn't "questioning" her qualifications, he was openly inferring that it was impossible that someone who looked like her could be qualified for that position. While she is a woman, I strongly suspect that this comment was made based on her racial appearance and country of origin (even though she has lived in the US since 1973). Trying to defend what the earlier poster wrote by labeling it as simply innocent "questioning" and just a sign of the times we live in is dishonest. Everyone knows full well he was doing something quite different.

Identity politics has caused things like this to be considered.

It's white supremacy and nationalist movements which have fueled racial and social polarization and divisions. By labeling this as "identity politics" as if everyone is equally to blame for these tensions, you're attempting to blame-shift responsibility for these tensions onto people who have suffered as a result of these movements, and are defensively responding to them, i.e., victims of police brutality, church shootings, armed militias intimidating protestors, hate crimes, housing and job discrimination, systemic racism, etc., etc. All you're doing is parroting Trump's "good people on both sides" rhetoric.

And the now throw away word ‘racist’ has lost a lot of its clout because of this divisive political thinking.

If someone suggesting that the only way a black woman could have gotten a job was because of affirmative action or politics isn't racist enough to fit your definition of "racism" I think it's your definition of "racism" that needs to be overhauled, not mine.

Stop throwing it around, there are real racists out there you know!

Right. We can all agree there are racists "out there," but the word never ever applies to us. Me, moi??? "I'm the least racist person you'll ever meet." Uh-huh. Where have I heard that before?

Oh look what you just did.

In the face of objections to overtly racist comments directed at a Black Nigerian woman, you have an attack of fragility and paint yourself a victim with your false equivalence.

The WTO and WHO need to be scrapped.

Both have disadvantaged poorer countries and economies.

I had a new one recently from a Nigerian pastor who had a dream that I was in spiritual danger and would be protected if I donated to a certain Nigerian church. I told him I was a devil worshiper and would call on demons to haunt him.

This is the Internet, you can be who and whatever you want.

’My way of thinking’ doesn’t preclude anyone being a racist on the basis of their own nationality and race. If you have evidence to contradict this post it.

Just imagine what a dull topic this would be if the new WTO chief was a white, elderly, western guy. We might have even discussed his positions on issues etc.

Thanks for the share . Didn’t bother to read most of it as it’s the same old type of drivel pumped out by MSM and the rest of “woke” brigade.

Did you know in Scotland now you can get nicked for making a comment that doesn’t tow the line with rest of the nut truck woke brigade?  Have a think on that whilst polishing your halo ????

Do take a chill pill gb1.

This awful WTO has discriminated against smaller countries and those with smaller economies for yonks.

IMO they are simply paying lip-service by appointing this lady. Trying to appease the countries, and small industries that have been shafted by the big boys. Same with the WHO; we must be legitimate, look who is the figurehead.

Oooooh the big PC word beginning with R. I read an interesting article sometime ago stating that racism is inherent in the human psyche, skin colour was only a small part of it but that was easily and immediately registered due to being obvious. Anything apart from the norm of your 'tribe' be it language, style of dress, customs or religion activates the racist trigger, a form of defence against anything that could threaten the tribe. As we have become more socially aware we realize that in today's society these things aren't a threat but the neolithic mind hasn't quite caught up so racism lurks beneath the civilized veneer of all of us, uncomfortable though that may be to accept.

In my defence....my grandmother was a Scot, died at 104 and lived in London 70 years, never lost her accent.

That’s a good explanation of tribalism, it’s not a good explanation of racism, nor is an explanation of the overt racism displayed over the appointment of this highly qualified individual.

Why does a person have to be highly qualified, to be the figurehead of an organization run by big-business.?

There are more important traits to a person that time being spent in a University. Being an honest and truthful person for two.

I personally think she is qualified, refreshing, not only a woman but a woman of colour. The fact that I said that shows a shadow of racism, why should I think it to be refreshing, unusual, but it is. Lighten up, going PC is counterproductive. Tribalism is racist, so is patriotism but here we are, it is as it is.

She’s not just highly qualified, she’s also highly experienced in economic management, and international affairs.

I’ve not seen any evidence that being highly educated and highly experienced precludes anyone from also being both honest and truthful.

You really have never met a true hater or racist have you? From experience  I think the most judgmental people on race I have met were black . I as mixed race with a funny accent didn’t go down too well when I was still living in Bristol in the more colourful part of the city shall we say .  I have also crossed paths with white supremacist on one occasion . Now there was a time to use the ‘R’ word . Then it had far more clout.  Britain as a whole is the least racist and most accepting country I have ever lived in .  Just my opinion .

I love Thailand and even though it does have its race/judgemental issues I can’t wait to get back to see my family . Lucky for you for being there . Be happy ????

You need to re-read what I said earlier:

Yes I count myself very fortunate to be in Thailand and I have a great deal of sympathy for those who are this past year separated from their families, unable to return.

But likewise, many here in Thailand are separated from family back home, myself included.

These are difficult times for many people.

Truth integrity, qualifications and experience are not mutually exclusive.

Everywhere produces people of character, good and bad, origins is not a guarantee of either.

After reading six pages of comments, could someone at least tell me what this woman's policy positions are? What will she actually do?

I saw an article on a US site generally considered very conservative that claimed that she indeeds leans toward China, and it seems a fact that China actively supported her candidacy. I understand that the Democrats want to reverse certain of the previous administration's policy positions, but I would hope they don't throw out the baby with the bath water.
