workshop with lathe

Featured Replies

Anyone knows of a workshop with a lathe, who could make a small part for me, and which understands enough English to know what I actually want?

Wood or metal?

Metal or teflon, to make a sleeve ring.

I have this part, the top which holds the handle is spliced.

Trying to make a sleeve over it, so it still can hold the handle.

A replacement part is 2800 Baht, so worth trying to fix it

That needs to be moulded (reinforced nylon?) not turned on a lathe

Any suggestion where that can be done not too far from Pattaya?

To describe the issue more specific.

The top 2 cm, where the whole is through which the handle pin goes, has spliced with the front side broken off.

I still have the part, so can glue them together again, but it will not hold of course, as there will be quite some force on it when operating the handle.

My thoughts were to slide a sleeve over it to reinforce it.

Any suggestions are welcome

would suggest easier/cheaper to buy new from the original supplier than try to make

Price is 2800 Baht, not exactly cheap imo

Absolutely correct... a nylatron sleeve a couple of thou smaller than the O.D. pressed over the split part with an expoxy resin (Araldite) or Superglue to reinforce it and it will be as good as new...unfortunately I don,t have a lathe anymore

That looks like the pool valve part my brother was asking me to locate. He ended having the whole assembly modified somewhere in Pattaya.

Yes it is the selector plate from a Hayward filter valve.

Could you inquire with your brother where he got it modified?

The worn top of the spindle was modified to stop it slipping in its operating lever. Not sure of the valve brand.

The work was carried out at by a small engineering shop in the Naklua area. Location - 12.970257, 100.909292

Best take some translation help to explain the problem and understand any fix suggested.

If its a one off, how about 3D printing?

The printer would need to be good enough to produce suitable finish and precision. Then there's the problem of scanning and measuring the original excluding any damage.

Not sure if this will help

I have repaired the sleeves on cooker knobs by gluing with epoxy and the holding the sleeve together with a cable tie.

Obviously you have to have enough room round the outside of the sleeve for cable tie.

Does not look very pretty but as it's on the inside nobody sees it.

Another way, depending on your situation, is to glue the part together then fill the surrounding space with Hot Glue so the the part has nowhere to go even if the fix does not hold.

There is a lot of force applied on the part when operating the handle, which is the main reason to broke, so glue and cable ties don't stand a chance.

Even if I manage to make a sleeve, they probably have to make the hole through which the shaft slides a little bigger, to accommodate for the size of the sleeve
