Drunken Phuket police officer shoots noodle vendor on Bangla Rd

Just heard from a friend in police that he was fired promptly and will be prosecuted to the full extend of the law !

Maybe they will make an example out of this case... one can only hope.

Throw the book at him. Charge him like any other pleb. Convict him, and send a message out to the people of the nation, that the judiciary is serious, and does not take sides. This is just another overly entitled creep. He was denied entrance to a nightclub, and turned around and shot a random person. This is bordering on a heinous crime, and deserves 20-40 years in prison, at a minimum. 

 

Ultimately, Cpl. Pornthep Channarong of the Phuket Provincial Police, is a small man, with stunningly low self esteem, and no estimation of self, who could not handle any sort of rejection, and went to an extreme measure, and took out his lack of fulfillment, his anger, and his frustrations on a life not well lived, on a stranger. He has self revoked the right to breathe oxygen, with this one act, though it is likely his past is not a pretty picture either. Lock him up!

I was having coffee on my balcony about 5:30, about 200-300 meters away, but without a direct view down onto Bangla Rd...  Heard the shots between 5:30 and 5:40. There were a group of 5-6 shots in very rapid succession, followed several seconds later by another 2 shots, and perhaps another few seconds and a final single shot. 

 

Ambulance sirens followed about 10 minutes later.

 

The initial Thai news reports which appeared an hour and a half later said the policeman had been fighting with a falang man before the incident, then brandished the pistol and fired randomly down and into the street, according to my gf, this is apparently when the noodle vendor was hit.

 

It would appear the initial hit was drunken recklessness and willful disregard on the part of the police corporal, but the second go-round (in the CCTV video) certainly appears to be attempted murder.

 

I sincerely hope that justice will be served, but I've been around long enough to doubt that will be the case when the police are involved.

It would seem the phrase "To Protect and Serve" is not included in the RTP charter any more than firearm training hours are mandatory.

Where is your mind at? The commenter was not blaming except to suggest that the police officer had already been in a belligerent state and fighting. I read it as that the officer was combative and looking for trouble

In the article it stated he was already set to be transferred prior to this incident.  No reason was given for his upcoming transfer.
