Popular Post webfact
Thai teacher who shattered a young student's US army dream now looks a whole lot worse The issue of a Thai teacher who told a student on a form to change their dream of becoming a member of the US military into something "realistic" just got a whole lot worse. The student had been slapped down resulting in widespread support online for the student and condemnation of the teacher concerned. A YouTuber put out messages of support from people of Thai ancestry who had successfully joined the different branches of the US armed services. Now posts on Twitter and Facebook coming from a person at the center of the drama said that the teacher was so angry about the post that they they had called the poster and made them apologise. This had to be done by performing a "graap". In this gesture of begging forgiveness (and offering respect) the student was made to put their head to the floor at the teacher's feet in apology. Not surprisingly this latest turn had Thai netizens increasingly slamming the teacher, reported Daily News. They were questioning whether this teacher was worthy of any such "respect". The school at the center of the story has been reported to be in Rayong province. The online post said "yes, you heard me correctly, they were made to "graap" when they had done nothing wrong". -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-03-11 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 7

Popular Post darksidedog
If I were running the education system, this is one teacher who would be gone from the job, never to return to employment in education again. Horrible piece of work, clearly unsuited for such a job. 19

Regular military coups, corruption, rigging elections, lack of free speech and gatherings, (they are allowed by the constitution but not by the government). Would you like some more examples? 3

Well, in Thai culture they had done something pretty bad by publicly criticising and embarrassing their teacher. You can't just wish away an entire culture because you have access to the internet and see things are different in other cultures. I wonder how the kid would feel if suddenly he was able to fail at school or saw genuine consequences for his actions. I have no doubt he probably rides a motorbike with no helmet, licence or insurance. The whole "I'd like to carefully select and demand rights from other cultures that benefit me while also maintaining the lack of rights in my culture that also benefit me" attitude is a recipe for a pretty crappy generation. 1 2

But if I remember correctly, Duckworth "supported" this resolution. My question is: why didn't she sponsor it? Wasn't it Durbin and Menendez who sponsored it? She couldn't very well let the resolution pass by without her support. That would have looked horrible. Back when she visited Thailand and Prayut she had the chance to say something directly and didn't. I can only assume that is because she is a supporter of the status quo. I make no judgment one way or the other about the good or bad of such a position. I'm just noting it.
