Sophon Cable TV spoke to local Tourism Authority of Thailand rep Khajondech Apicharttrakul who hailed the success of the TAT's "Check In Chonburi Free 500" scheme.

Khajondech said that the plan had received widespread interest from bloggers and the media encouraging hotels to take part.

There was a quota of 4,000 opportunities and the money would filter through to restaurants, coffee shops, spas and massage.

It started at Chinese New Year and it is expected that all of the quota would be used up by the end of this month.

The Check In Chonburi Free 500 scheme was launched in February and enabled tourists to receive 500 baht coupons to visit tourist attractions, hotels, restaurants and spas.

Business opportunity - T shirts with 'Free the Chonburi 500' on.  Plastic notice boards erected at every road junction so as to obscure oncoming traffic; fleets of speaker vans slowly bringing Sukhumvit to a standstill.

Wonder if this 500 baht coupons will bring entry price down to that of Thais or if it will still be above ?
