Most senators abstained in the voting of the constitutional amendments bill Wednesday night in compliance with the ruling by the Constitutional Court that a new Constitution can be drafted only after it is given public consent through a national referendum, Senate Deputy Speaker General Singsuk Singprai said.

Speaking to the media at parliament today (Thursday), he also warned that legislators who voted in favour of the bill in its third and final reading will be held accountable for their actions if, in the future, someone raises the case with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) seeking their removal from their political post.

The charter amendments bill was voted down on late Wednesday night, after more than ten hours of fierce debate.

Sounds like someone or many someone's may be up the creek without a paddle just like the former government when a certain vote came up to give amnesty.  Some folks want this charade of a government to continue for a very long time it appears from the way things have been going.  Time to just throw the bums out.

but it was the ruling coalition, which tabled this bill.

they have also sank it.

very devious political game. Trying to buy time.

They don't much chance for a political change through parliament.

Instead guillotines will be erected by protesters.

the last chapter from this article: "Asked about the chance of writing of a new charter, he said that the framers of the current charter had crafted the document in such a way that writing of a new one is very difficult."

What a farce!

When one side wants to scrap (or change) the constitution it is done easily with the stroke of a pen, even if it has been through a referendum, yet anytime attempts are made to make the constitution democratic it suddenly becomes sacrosanct and coupsters, compliant courts and appointed senators always manage keep finding obstacles to it being able to happen.......until the next coup when it gets ripped up overnight.

Classic rule by law instead of rule of law.

Totally agree with the basis of your post.

But would add that a farce is usually comedic.

This "third reading" fiasco was tragic.
