Thailand's CTIC police chief announced the arrest of eight Chinese computer programmers working illegally and on overstay in Thailand.

The CTIC - that combats transnational crime and illegal immigrants - armed with a search warrant from the Phra Nakhon South court raided a room at an apartment building in Sathon Soi 11 in the Yannawa area.

Xudong Zhao and seven others were arrested and evidence was seized according to Gen Visanu Prasatthong-osoth chief of the CTIC.

Complaints had been received that the Chinese nationals were working without permits.

They admitted that they were acting under the direct orders of a Chinese boss in China writing programs for online betting.

The customers of such sites are in China though INN news reported that the CTIC are investigating links to many other countries.

The gang were using Thailand as a base during the pandemic.

Those arrested were also charged with being on overstay.

Ditto in Cambodia. Almost daily reports of ransom kidnappings, balcony "falls," beatings, robberies, police raids on online gambling dens, drunk Chinese in expensive cars running over tuktuk drivers and smashing into businesses.  And the occasional mass deportations back to China. A credit to their countrymen.

The gambling was taking odds on whether the 90 day online system would be back up by Christmas

My Chinese neighbor explained that they operate here even though their scam targets are often in China. He said if they're caught here,  it's deportation but if caught in China doing this perhaps severe jail time or even execution. The Fact that the crime was perpetrated from Thailand saves them from the firing squad

Thailand should have hard labor camps for them like their Chinese brothers in arms have.

They can blend right in.  Imagine a western criminal trying to hide out.

Conversely, how many retired Chinese expats do they have here?
