BANGKOK (NNT) - The national committee on communicable diseases has agreed that the government can overcome the current Covid-19 crisis without needing to impose a nationwide lockdown.

Public Health Minister Anutin Chanvirakul said on Thursday that the committee has seen no point in imposing a lockdown for the time being. The cycle of disease has only been two weeks and the government has had good cooperation from all stakeholders.

He said the committee agreed on various measures to control the disease, including ordering that restaurants shut at 9pm in red zone provinces and 11pm elsewhere. The sale of alcohol in restaurants should be outlawed across the country.

Other proposals included a ban on parties and gatherings of more than 50 people, banning all in-person classes and closing amusement parks, even including recreation areas inside department stores.

The proposals will be discussed at Friday’s meeting of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration. If implemented, the measures would be effective until the end of this month.

never believe anything from this buffoon; 'for the time being' means they can change it in a minute, which means what he said meant absolutely nothing;

It's not rocket science. Alcohol lowers inhibitions. Consuming alcohol in a public place is not where you want lowered inhibitions. No restrictions on private consumption ( I think. I don't drink alcohol so do not follow every twist and turn of this policy.)

Anybody who continues to resist this measure possibly has a problem with alcohol.

It's not just that. Statistically drunk people are more likely to end up in hospital thus putting more strain on already stretched services.

So as the virus numbers increase everyday and the hospitals fill up with folks needing serious assistance with respirators, and the ASQ hotels are put into play, it has become a money maker for them in other words.  Nice to see that money trumps the livelihoods of many that have now been possibly infected and will be isolated in a facility and unable to work.  Roll out the fricking vaccination program, and start to act as if you care Anutin.  The look on your face is one of who gives a flick.  I hate being right sometimes and this is where I have become saddened because the writing is on the wall and pure as day for all to see.  "Only two weeks into the disease and good cooperation" he says.  He has been smoking some of his own product it seems.

As Thailand will end up "possibly" like most countries that have had and still do have this UK variant, or "possibly" end up even worse as the roll out of vaccines is a shambles, one must look for other alternatives and I have read research papers stating that the Influenza and Pneumonia vaccines may assist in the fight against Covid, i.e. reducing the severity of the disease, after all, they are all respiratory diseases, albeit different, yes we know Covid is far worse effecting other organs as well, so might want to do your research and if you consider the evidence is viable, you might get a shot of one or both, i.e. after also seeing medical advice.

I cannot sit and wait for these bozo's to play with our lives, that and the AZ & J&J experimental vaccines are out for me, when and if the private hospitals get their hands on the mRNA vaccines, I might just pick one, i.e. if the numbers here are as high as I expect them to be by the end of the month.

On the 10th of April WHO sent a direct message to Thailand saying this new variant will be more challenging.

Its obvious they have taken no notice, they have not learned anything from other countries disasters and are prepared to now go into a full scale wide outbreak.

So anyone who thinks it's OK to have a drink in a restaurant during the restricted opening hours has a drink problem.?

Well it makes sense to you anyway.

Anyone is protests going without alcohol with their meal for a very limited period of time, when it can be consumed at home, possibly does have a problem, yes.

Or they don;t give a rat's -ss about the public welfare and efforts to contain this problem.

If they can consume at home the alcohol is obviously not the problem.

Some of us like to have a drink in a social setting.

Not everyone who drinks at home has a problem but most problem drinkers do drink at home. I don't.

I dare say you never go out then ?

maybe 25,000/69,000,000 dead on Thai roads.

maybe 3(unproven)/40,000,000 dead in UK from vaccine.

You're about 5,000 times more likely to die on a Thai road than AZ covid vaccine ! Does that means staying in forever until their is a vaccine for road safety ?

I thought that Anutin had to get in quarantaine ? He was sitting next to Chidhob ( the guy who got infected with covid-19 )without wearing a mask, you even saw them shaking hands.

I am not scared of facing Covid, we are all going to the same place in the end. I do not stay in, I do as told, wear a mask, social distance and wash hands regularly when out, and when out, I could be hit by a bus. These "experimental vaccines" are not 100%, no vaccines are, but vaccines that have been around are proven to be affective, these are not classified as vaccines, they are still in their experimental stages, and will continue to be until 2022-2023-2024 and then if the FDA deems the data is good will move them up a category to be vaccines.

The risk to me, is a risk that I cannot take for my families sake, "experimental vaccines" carry a risk, Covid is a risk, I see risks different to you, in other words, high/low, they are all risks, stock markets have a risk, but with your life, no thanks, what I am saying is there is no liability against anyone who produces it, sells it, administers it, now to me that's like playing Russian Roulette, e.g. take your chances, I won't follow everyone else, it's up to the individual to weigh up the risks and how they perceive it, one size doesn't fit all.

I remember when they were reporting people dying of these "experimental vaccines" and they were all saying, it's not the vaccines, they would have died anyway, they were old, it was a coincidence, well yeh sure right, then they started dropping like flies much younger, healthy doctors, nurses in the front line and others, and they kept saying, it's a coincidence, or they had some underlying conditions that we couldn't know about, but then someone brave enough came out and said hang on a second, blood clotting is being caused from these "experimental vaccines" and then we have those like yourself that goes on the defensive when someone thinks outside the square and doesn't go the way they want us too.

Give me a break, you want the "experimental vaccine" got get it, for me, like I said, I will look for alternatives until I am convinced that these "experimental vaccines" are safe enough for me to say jab me, until then, not a part of it, oh and don't worry about me infecting you, because even if you have the jab, you can still be infected, like me without the jab, the severity of the infection will depend on your immune system which can also be a risk, but I have one and if it comes to it being tested without the vaccine, well, that was my decision not to get an "experimental vaccine" at this point in time.

Trust is something I don't have when others are telling me it is the right thing to do when it comes to my life, suffice to say, I will stay in control of that for as long as I can thank you very much, I am no hero, I'm special ????

I was going to go down to the German restaurant for a pork chop and a beer this weekend. Oh well, it can wait.

I agree. Also, places where alcohol is consumed also encourage the gathering together of people together in large groups. In normal times that’s good. In the middle of a respiratory disease outbreak not so much.

There are no experimental vaccines currently in use for CoViD-19.

I suppose you could say vaccines that are still in the trial phase are still experimental (trial and experiment being synonyms) but all of the vaccines In question have finished their trial phases and have been approved for use.

It's true that at the moment, they're only approved through EUA's (Emergency Use Authorizations) but they are approved nonetheless. EUA's are a wholly necessary precursor to full licensure when you are in a pandemic situation. They were previously used for Ebola, for instance.

Incidentally both the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines have been implicated in exactly the same kind of rare blood clotting disorder (thrombocytopenia) as the others, although once again, at an extremely low rate.
