Thailand negotiating to buy 5-10 million doses of Pfizer vaccine: PM

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand is negotiating to buy five to 10 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer Inc and BioNTech, the country's prime minister said on Tuesday.

Provinces impose tougher COVID-19 measures

BANGKOK (NNT) - Following the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s announcement on containment measures for this current wave of COVID-19, some provinces have taken additional steps to impose measures beyond the CCSA’s mandate, including a COVID-19 testing requirement for inter-provincial travelers.

Thai cabinet agrees to another 7,000 baht each for 33.5 million Thais under “Rao Chana” scheme

The Thai cabinet, today (Tuesday), approved the Finance Ministry’s proposal to extend the “Rao Chana” economic stimulus scheme until end of June for 33.5 million Thais, including 2.4 million new recipients, to support them during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Committee on commerce, industry and banking expects drop in GDP of 0.5% to 1% in 2021

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) has said that Thailand can expect a drop in GDP of 0.5% to 1% if the government is able to control the new Covid-19 wave by April or May.

Thailand to buy another 35m doses of COVID-19 vaccine from other companies

Thailand will procure an additional 35 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from other 2 or 3 companies, on top of the 65 million from Sinovac and AstraZeneca, according to a post on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s Facebook on Wednesday morning.

Decision to close beaches in Chonburi reversed - but illegal gathering and alcohol still a no-no

Bang Sri Muang police and rescue services were on the scene yesterday after a 10 wheel truck crossed the central median and fell on its side crushing two cars and a pick-up, according to witnesses.

Six suffer partial paralysis after inoculation with Sinovac vaccine

Six people, who were inoculated with the Sinovac vaccine in Thailand’s eastern coastal province of Rayong, developed partial paralysis and had to be given medication to dissolve blood clots, said Dr. Thiravat Hemachudha, head of the Emerging Infectious Disease Health Science Centre of Chulalongkorn University, in his Facebook post yesterday (Tuesday). All those affected have now recovered.

Siriraj Hospital appeals for blood donations

The blood bank at Siriraj Hospital is running low on all blood types due to reduced donations during the COVID-19 outbreak, according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Parichart Permpikul, head of the Siriraj’s transfusion medicine department at Mahidol University.

PM confirms comprehensive care for COVID-19 patients in southern border provinces

BANGKOK (NNT) - Since the outbreak of "COVID-19" in the southern border provinces, more than 500 cases have been found. This includes cases stemming from the entertainment venue cluster in Songkhla, and the group of inmates in prison in Narathiwat. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia has increased daily. In Bangkok, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has closely followed the situation and has assured Thais that he will take care of the COVID-19 situation in the southern border provinces. There are now almost 2,000 beds to accommodate patients.

MOPH revamps hospitalization system as COVID-19 patients seek beds

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has acknowledged a bottleneck in the system which has made it more difficult for COVID-19 patients to get a hospital bed, despite availability. The ministry says the system has now been revamped, which should reduce the waiting time for COVID-19 patients needing to be hospitalized.
