Phuket - Foreigners pay 500 baht for Covid-19 Rapid Test. Thais free

Featured Replies

Forcing everyone flying to Phuket to pay for a Rapid Test for #COVID19 was a nail in the coffin for tourism. So, they came up with a new idea. From tomorrow, Thais can get the test for free at the airport. Foreigners still have to pay 500 baht #AmazingThailand #2PriceThailand

The headline in this article says, “Good news! Thais can enter Phuket and get the #COVID19 Rapid Test for free. Foreigners pay 500 baht”. I don’t know about you, but I’m boycotting the whole island now until they rescind this disgraceful rule #Thailand #2PriceIsland

The Phuket authorities made a big mistake here. They should charge Thais 50 Baht for the test. This would make it the same multiplier of 10 for foreigners as mandated by a Ministerial Regulation for entry into national parks and neither Thais nor foreigners would have cause for griping.

I don't agree with it but these articles always make out Thailand is different to any other country in this respect. As a UK citizen in Italy I have to have regular PCR test with work, Italians free, me €90 each time.
