I don't know from which particular country you hail from but it would be refreshing if you could post the truth & NOT your personal bias. ????

I have a feeling that the 'use by date' for this government is approaching rapidly, best if it was chucked on the rubbish tip before it damages the country any further, and the day of a popular uprising is not too far away.

To be fair Thailand did manage the initial virus period well but they've been left hot footed with this new strain. Plenty of warning about it but they failed to take heed and boom!

They wer caught napping when the virus was raging in Myanmar in September/October. The givernment was well aware of that and also aware or legal and illegal migrant workers in the markets here. There should have been proactive testing of market workers at that time. The the cops ignore/facilitate illegal gambling/night club openings, which exacerbated outbreaks. Put it down to corruption.

Agree but at that time the virus variant was still not as contagious so they were still pretty complacent in thinking they could handle it. This variant is a very different beast

They could do plenty, they knew it was the new variant before Songkran yet still allowed Thailand wide travel for millions.

I'll have to agree to disagree on their handling of the previous year however as their management of quarantine entry has worked very well. They've failed big time with vaccine plan of course. Are their missing numbers from deaths or cases, yes sure but I think thats the same in all countries bar a few exceptions

the management of quarantine entry is just the tip of the iceberg, and yes they did a spectacular job for that, while leaving wide open other venues of transfer for the virus

and yes, every country is cheating on the numbers, actually better like that, or it could create a bigger panic and we all know that the panic is more dangerous than the cause

everyone has failed, virus and nature win all the time

in insight, it was very pretentious and delusional from global leaders to think they could win and contain that virus, like they were supergod and it was just a matter a public policy to stop the virus, like the failed lockdowns etc...

they couldn't find masks and organize enough beds for the sicks, and yet they thought they could defeat a fast spreading virus ????

how naive of them ????

Remember the good old days when just ONE case in Rayong sent the surrounding provinces in a panic?

Thailand was the poster child for Covid success. Then greed and stupidity took over, and now here we are. India version 2.0

Exaggeration is also a profession, you cannot compare India with Thailand if you look at the population, but for many other reasons.

Would serve them right as they have clearly failed and been failing. Just finally caught up with them. The problem is whether or not there is anyone that can actually handle it

Some observers are warning of a popular uprising if the government fails to tackle this fresh outbreak successfully.

Would be another Myanmar in the making, Prayut won't step down until he wants to exile himself somewhere nice.

I thought there had been one and the leaders were arrested and lots of others beaten up by the police?

When is the proper time for a popular uprising and who makes this decision?

History shows us these things occur only when a normally complacent citizenry is finally pushed past its limits of endurance with government. Timing may be everything but emotion has no clock.

Typically small scale protests of dissatisfaction are easily suppressed or are simply ignored by a governance secure in the arrogance of their authority. This works well until suddenly it doesn't.

People are emotional and when frightened they abandon reason and become ripe for sudden unpredictable outbursts of frustration, often violent. It's just the nature of the beast.

Unfortunately, many a wiley demagogue has ridden such events into office such as Oliver Cromwell and Donald Trump.

Is it dangerous? Yes.

Is it manageable? No.

Just read an interesting article regarding lab tests and reporting.  The spin on it makes it seem that the government is blaming labs for under reporting covid positive cases and failing to get those positive situated in a hospital or facility. Makes one wonder what those extra numbers of infected might be and where they are wandering about. Is this true or the government passing the buck.

That seems fairly incredible, both that the government would blame the labs, and also that the labs would under report positive cases. Perhaps the article is the product of a bored writer practicing writing fiction.

The best data is showing the epidemic to be plateauing about now. If it starts to ramp down soon, will you give the government credit for stopping the virus again?

Variants are not bred, that's a  conscious endeavor; they evolve naturally. Every organism on this planet continually and spontaneously spawns mutations, including humans. Most are maladaptive and fail to reproduce. Others succeed brilliantly and are transmitted to future generations.

You are suggesting that this virus is being nefariously selected and spread. It is, but Nature is doing it, not mankind. Without such an intrinsic adaptive mechanism at work the entire ecology of our planet would fail.

It is of course debatable whether the evolution of hominids has been maladaptive or not. Our appearance on the scene is mere seconds long on an ecological time scale. At the rate we're going there's still lots of time left for us to erase ourselves. ????

yes, I've met quite a few human mutations.  A lot of them seem to come to Pattaya to mutate, although their mutations seem to be a backward step rather than a forward one.

Unfortunately new mutations, similar to these, will continue to manifest themselves in a hospitable environment. You mentioned Pattaya. ????

Seriously though, the vast majority of spontaneous mutations are regressive and quickly fail to spread their seeds. The ebola virus had several variants that killed their hosts so quickly that they were easily contained and eliminated before they could spread geographically.

Is a wall around Pattaya feasible? Just asking.

Incredible yes but not the product of a bored writer, its a report from Dr Thares Krassanairawiwong the Director General of the Department of Health Service.

Stating that it was taking legal action against 11 labs for not reporting covid positive cases to them

Wow. If that's true, and its for more than a handful of cases, that is big news.

Its in the B.P. so we're not allowed to link to it. But you can search for the article headline which is "12 clinics, labs face legal action over control measures"

the spread will naturally plateau at some point, not sure why the Thai government or any government should get credit for it

might as well congrats the virus, for spreading naturally and finally running its course
