Expat Health Insurance Coverage

Featured Replies

Question to those who may have purchased some sort of coverage to meet the Minimum requirements>

Does $1500 USD per year sound like a reasonable rate on 400k/40k coverage?? Long Stay Expats

Company offering plan is named Regency!!!!

Thanks for your responses in advance.

Regency is NOT in the list of approved companies. So will not meet requirements for extension of stay under an OA visa. Might or might not meet requirement for initial visa issuance depending in whether or nto they will sign the "Foreign Insurance Certificate".

The approved companies are listed here https://longstay.tgia.org/home/companiesoa

To save you some time, if you are over 65 the only ones that will give you a policy with guaranteed renewal are: Pacific Cross, LMG, Thai Vivat, Viriyah and Bangkok Insurance. As of when I last waded through this.

As to cost, depends very much on what extent of coverage you get. You can meet the OA 400/40 requirement with a policy that covers only up to 400K inpatient/40k outpatient  and has a 200k deductible i.e. provides essentially no actual protection) for between about 6,000 to 10,000 baht depending on your age. Or you can get a policy that provides real protection (meaning 2-5 million baht inpatient cover) for anywhere from about 55,000 to 200,000+ baht  a year depending on your age. OR you can get 2 policies, one "real" one to provide actual protection and one to meet the immigration requirement.

While that third option may sound strange, it is often the best one especially if you are over 65.  400K inpatient cover is not an adequate level of insurance even if using only public hospitals.  And the 40k outpatient cover is unnecessary and results in much higher premiums. Hence it is often cheaper to get 2 different policies, a "real" one and one for immigration purposes.

Would it be an international insurance company or a Thai one?

What do you mean with "for anywhere"?

Thanks a lot
