All foreigners in Thailand will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, it was announced at the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) briefing on Thursday.

According to Natapanu Nopakun, Deputy Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreigners are included in Thailand’s mass vaccination plans.

“All people who reside in Thailand, regardless of nationality, are eligible to receive the vaccine under the plan,” Mr Natapanu said.

Full details of exactly when foreigners in Thailand will begin to receive the vaccination will be announced as soon as they are available, Mr Natapanu added.

Some foreigners in Thailand have already started to receive the vaccine, with some having already had two doses of the vaccine.

Earlier this month, Thaivisa was contacted by an expat in Koh Samui who confirmed they had received the vaccination following assistance from their school, where they are employed as a teacher.

Mr Natapanu’s comments echo those made by CCSA deputy spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan in February who said: "The distribution of vaccinations will include expatriates and migrant workers”.

Meanwhile, Mr Natapanu said that 1.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed in Thailand with more than 1 million people having now received their first dose.

Excellent news... the only logical and fair solution as the vaccine helps all, not just the person vaccinated but those with whom that person comes into contact.

As it stands: Ministry of Public Health announced:

From 1st May 60+ and those in 7 high risk groups can register - First vaccinations will strat from 7th June.

From  1st July: 18-59 can register with first vaccinations taking place in August.

Thus, given this news that foreigners can also receive the vaccination one can assume that the above MOPH announcement includes foreigners.

Now.. Lets see how this good news can be screwed up in practice.

Erm... do they mean Embassy Staff and those working for various government bodies (i.e. British Counsel).

It's RESIDENTS ONLY.  If you do not possess a Thai ID, you are not eligible.  You can only go the private route, which at the moment the hospitals have yet to receive any stocks of vaccine.

  • Popular Post

Very good news! The only way to put an end to all this misery is to get everyone vaccinated.

I will take it as soon as it is given to me.

Are you sure about that?

What is the Thai word or expression that has been translated as "residents"?

Good news!

Let us wait and see how it pans out...

Will be the AZ produced by Siam bioscience which I not much trust. And AZ has only 63% protection and is less effective even with the new variants, UK included. Also they only will start in June so prity sure foreigners will be maybe August-Seprember

For me if Pfizer, Moderna which are both over 90% or even J&J over 70% and that one already proven that UK variant works then I'll just go and pay for any of these

"migrant workers" doesn't sound like "residents" to me

All foreigners residing in Thailand is different from having Thai Residency.

And... Foreigners can get a Thai ID with a Yellow Tabien Baan House Book and Pink ID card.

My interpretation of this announcement by the CCSA is that any foreigner can get the Vaccine, I assume they will be able to register with their passport details - time will tell.

And free / not free not mentioned in the announcement today.

Whilst this is good news, the proof of this article will be when needles actually start to go into Foreign Arms. FOC of anything.

Actually, I see that your post is the first in this topic to use the word "residents"

In the OP, the translation of what a government spokesman said is "All people who reside in Thailand, regardless of nationality..."

Now I realise what the 90 day and TM30 are for. Proof one is eligible to register

There is no digital link available for cynicism....

... To be fair, the cynicism expressed by aduaciousnomad is perfectly understandable.

I don’t want to turn this into a ‘Thai Bash’ but any issue such as this is usually handled in the most clumsy manner possible, in this case I’m sure many are not believing this until the actually have the vaccine of choice without a having to go through a host of hoop jumping and hidden costs..

I hope I am wrong and will be able to feel pride on behalf of my Thai friends at how this is handled.

The key words are "reside in Thailand". Until that is clarified there is no point to speculate.

Not sure where you get your figures from, but I will take AZ at 100% effective against severe Covid.

Reside, Reside, as in living in Thailand, not one being a permanent resident, ergo migrant workers and expatriates who reside here.

and hopefully FOC'd for the foreign flockers .. though given the flip flopping and back flipping exhibited so far t'would be no surprise if there's another about turn leaving f'rrangs in a tizz' .. again ..

Is there any middle or developed country in the world that does charge foreigners and not the local citizens? I somehow doubt it. <snip>

Its a given that if they want to cleanse their country of the virus then all need to be vaccinated regardless of nationality.

What Thailand is doing is to be expected, not a gift.
