Ya, the commentary on that was a bit muddled... But AFAIK, what expats really need is just to bring their passport and/or Thai social security number to facilitate registration.

I think the medical records part was in reference to people who already have some kind of existing profile and medical records in the Thai government hospital system, and they'll also be able to register at those hospitals in outlying provinces.

So they can record the event, if you don't have any medical records in Thailand yet they will probably start one for you so they have records.

Thailand's CCSA confirmed on Friday that they found 15 cases of the Covid-19 variant from India in a worker's camp in Lak Si, Bangkok. The variant is known to be more contagious and it is unsure at the moment how it entered into the country. #WhatsHappeningInThailand #โควิด19

Great to hear they're are checking for the new variants, very sad to hear the Indian has already arrived ???? now they have to step up with some surge testing before it spreads everywhere.

Worrying news in Thailand with vaccination still so chaotic: It has detected its first 15 domestically transmitted cases of the highly infectious COVID-19 variant first found in India

Further, from Reuters Foundation:  https://news.trust.org/item/20210521050418-mg1v1/

"The 15 cases were discovered among construction workers in Bangkok."

Is that the construction camp in Laksi where they just started vaccinating six surrounding communities?

Edit: Answered before I could post . I wonder which vaccine they are using.

So point 3 doesn't include tourists who are on extended stay and maybe some of those with underlying health conditions.

One thing I didn't hear Khun Nopakun mention in his briefing this afternoon is WHICH vaccine(s) the government will be offering to foreign nationals starting next month, Sinovac or the local AstraZeneca version, or which one depending on the person's age... No details on that thus far that I heard.

Pretty sure china doesn't count them until they have symptoms. If you look at their MOPH statement each day it lists those with covid and then those asymptomatic. The numbers listed as with covid end up on Worldometer, the asymptomatic don't. Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

I am sorry to say I have difficulty accepting anything their authorities publicize.

The 3,481 new COVID cases and 32 additional deaths reported by the Thai government on Friday mark the third highest totals of each since the start of the pandemic, bringing the nation’s official COVID case count to 123,066.

The 3,481 new case tally had been exceeded only by the 9,635 and 4,887 daily cases reached on May 17 and May 13, respectively. The 32 new deaths ties for the third highest daily total, exceeded only by 35 and 34 daily deaths reached on May 18 and May 12, respectively.

Just starting to hear that in class teaching may be pushed out to July 1. If this is the case they must know there's a problem. We'll have to wait and see if this push out is correct. If it is and with the way things are going this is very bad and push outs will continue. The blame lies fairly and squarely on one person. The one who didn't completely lock everything down after the Thong Lor spread was discovered and allowed Songkran travel to go ahead. As I say we'll see.

This is the difficult balance between the health of society and the health of the economy. Get it wrong and both suffer.

Graphic below shows Thailand's daily new domestic COVID cases, the subtotal for Bangkok province and the subtotal from the nation's prisons (in that order) for the past week (May 15-21). The far right column shows the case totals for each segment since April 1.

Covid vaccines approved in Thailand explained

People across the world are hoping the vaccines will help reduce fatalities and finally bring the Covid-19 crisis to an end.

Like other countries, Thailand has also been working on inoculating 70 per cent of its population to achieve herd immunity. To get a jab in Thailand, people can either register through the “Mor Phrom” (Doctors Ready) application or at medical facilities nationwide. However, people are still concerned about which brand of vaccine they will get.

‘Mor Mai Thon’ doctors petition for more vaccine alternatives

A group of doctors, who call themselves “Mor Mai Thon”, which translates as “doctors won’t take it anymore”, has launched a petition on change.org, demanding that the Public Health Minister and related agencies stop delaying the importation and administration of alternative vaccines, before the Indian variant of COVID-19 spreads more widely in Thailand.

The petition, which highlights that only 1-2% of Thailand’s population has been fully vaccinated, was created on Wednesday and had attracted almost 20,000 signatures by mid-day today (Friday).

Only Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines have, so far, been acquired and administered in Thailand. More than 2.64 million doses have been administered since February, with 921,825 people having received two doses.

My wife has been learning the English language (in-class) since July of last year.  With the start of the 3rd wave all educational establishments were closed which resulted in learning on-line.  She's none too happy.

FYI, there was NO mention during Friday's English language COVID news briefing on the status of prior plans to make the Mor Prom mobile app available / operational for foreign nationals.

The only discussion during Friday's briefing was vaccination registrations being opened to foreign nationals through in-person registrations starting June 7, either at the two locations mentioned above in Bangkok, or via government hospitals in the provinces.

Perhaps we'll hear more in the coming days of whether the Mor Prom app still is going to be made available to foreign nationals, and if so, when.

Are we all ready?

The 'Countdown to Reopen Phuket' begins

Thailand's tourism authorities are making a push for Phuket's July reopening.

While the bigger question of whether Thailand's ongoing third wave can be brought under control soon, the country's tourism authorities are adamant about reopening Phuket come July 1.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has reiterated that plans will proceed with the reopening of Phuket to foreign travellers sans quarantine.

A key tenet for Phuket's 'sandbox' plan was to vaccinate 70% of the island’s population against Covid-19 to achieve herd immunity ahead of the reopening date.

DDC's Director said on Friday that the most common variant found in Thailand is the UK one which has outpaced the original variant from China. The Indian variant has been discovered in Malaysia and Singapore in addition to Thailand.

The 15 workers infected with the variant from India (7 women and 8 men) have an average age of 46. Most are showing only minor symptoms.
