Testimony on the inside stupidity of the British government on Covid

So, now we get at least one insider account of the bumbling incompetence of the British government particularly in March, 2020 when although it was already too late to stop the pandemic, nevertheless they could still have saved many lives that were lost.  The view I have expressed here repeatedly is that the Western governments were all hopelessly incompetent or indifferent or both in the face of the pandemic especially by comparison to the Asian governments who did succeed because they were smarter and more diligent, such as S. Korea, China, Taiwan, Viet Nam, Australia, New Zealand, and maybe Thailand.    Now here is Dominic Cummings, of all people, describing the internal discussions of the Johnson government as they realize around March 13, that "there is no plan" and the government is "f*cked."   First, they do nothing, then they adopt the criminally incompetent policy of herd immunity through infection, and then they lie by denying that herd immunity is the new plan.  Cummings's view is that the fault was groupthink in the government that led the decision-makers to accept uncritically and without evidence that the policies successfully applied in East Asia would never be accepted by the British public which they then compounded by keeping their decision-making secret from the British people.

It's hard to know just how far to believe a man like Cummings who can claim with a straight face that he drove to Barnard Castle to test his eyesight, but since the basic fact of the British failure cannot be doubted, his testimony does have the ring of truth in this case.  At least Cummings apologizes for his own failures which no one in government has yet done.

This alternate media video provides intelligent commentary on Cummings's testimony.
