Anyone been tested for sleep apnea? I'm not sleeping well for a long time.

Featured Replies

When I got tested the put a bunch of those sticky probes on my head and heart etc and recorded me sleeping.  They then played that back for me with all my stats and said everything was normal.

You can maybe try video recording yourself sleeping and see what you breathing sounds like.    That will probably give you a clue if you are having breathing problems or not.

Yes, I did have sleep apneaas part of my Parkinsons symptoms ( which I chased away and am fine now ) - don't go down the easy way out and slippery slope of a sleeping pill every night.   Why

Firstly. It could be the air con that is the cause of your dry throat as it dehumidifies the air.   Secondly. Do you eat late? Salty foods or takeaway food? Often contains a lot of salt. The

  • Sorry to b direct but are you fat especially around the neck eg double or triple chins?   I was and used cpap for 10 <deleted>ty years and dropped 30 kg and it was all over.

Sleep apnoea is an involved test requiring a sleep lab. My husband just went through it. We are out of Thailand at present. Reason: he is snoring.

If you are in Bkk, see a TCM doc. St Louis Hosp. is a good place. This would be my start.

Sleep Apnea is one of those things that I find hard to believe what the Dr. says is happening. Do you trust someone who will potentially be pocketing thousands of dollars by selling you a machine they diagnosed you needed? Further, the success rate (as in continued use of the machine) is barely over 50%. Maintenance of the machine is also burdensome.

There are also treatments other than the CPAP machine that are much less expensive and much less burdensome. You will never find the Dr. pushing the CPAP machine telling you about the alternatives, since it hurts their bank account, The main one is a mouthguard which adjusts the position of the tongue so the problem is minimized. While the mouthguard is not quite as effective as the CPAP, it should provide relief for most. Also, the mouthguard doesn't have the almost 50% failure rate when people stop using the CPAP due to the difficulties in use.

Took a sleep study several years ago and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea.  Not fat as some people like to blame, but woke up tired for years and just attributed it to getting older.  Prescribed a APAP and started waking up refreshed and ready for the day.  After a year on the APAP started feeling the same old symptoms of waking up tired in the morning.  Talked to the doctor and the techs tested my APAP and it was defective. New APAP and waking up refreshed again.  My experience the APAP does work and my wife doesn't worry about me not breathing while I am sleeping.  My wife is the one who for years said she worried about me stopping breathing in my sleep and I finally had it checked out.  It will change you life unless you are just fat and wake up tired because you drink too much, eat too much and no exercise and snore because of booze.  I occasionally hit the beer too hard and feel tired and lethargic the next morning.  There are different types of sleep apnea which surgery may correct some. Go see a reputable doctor who will recommend a sleep test if needed, not all of them are crooks.  If you buy a CPAP/APAP without a specialist adjusting the setting to your conditions, which may change over time, you are not doing yourself justice.

I'm actually going to have this done tomorrow! I'm in my 30s, slim, healthy enough, don't snore much that I know of,  sleep fairly well ( however wake up on occasion) Reason for the test, fluctuating high blood pressure and potential heart issues.

what have your symptoms got to do with sleep apnea? why are you getting tested for this?

Before jumping to "procedures and tests" have you covered the basics first ?

What have you done and ascertained to date ?

Have you considered your diet and fluid intake ?

Whats your stress level like, are you worried at all ?

Hows your daily exercise ?

Any existing conditions/medications ?

You need to go through it by the numbers so to speak before jumping to tests etc, IMHO

Just a suggestion.

As stated, younger people should not have fluctuating high blood pressure for 2 years ++?

My cardiac stress test should up a possible left ventricle hypertrophy.

Sleep apnea could be the cause, so my doctor wants to check if I have it. Sleep apnea is not just about snoring and not getting enough sleep, it can be the cause of fatal heart issues that you do not even know about.

My testing was paid for by my insurance with my USA employer. The sleep study confirmed that I stopped breathing on a regular basis and would wake up gasping for air. They put me on a CPAP and that solved the problem. Sleep apnea can damage your heart and make you more susceptible to things like diabetes.

I have heard this is normal for people over 50. I don't know your age but don't be surprised. EVERY ONE I KNOW around 50+ has the same problem. Including myself. It seems that 5 hours sleep is a good night sleep now. Many are taking medication to help.

Try going to bed earlier, read a book, watch something llght hearted on TV or down load to watch.
Read up on your "body clock" to see why you may wake up early or at a good time.
Waking up at 5am is good.

SERIOUS WARNING !! Sleep Apnea is a dangerous condition. Do not ignore it. Do not make light of it. Early diagnosis and treatment will, like most medical conditions, result in the most favorable outcome. As others have mentioned, it can lead to many fatal conditions and complications.

TAKE THE OVERNIGHT SLEEP TEST NOW. It is so cheap (8k to 15k Baht) Totally painless. There may be a waiting list.

i hear you

sometimes i only get 3 or 4 hours in

good for you maybe. I hate it

Similar problem, waking up gasping for air, very dry mouth ect, read on the net about mouth breathing, so I got a bottle of nasal decongestant & some surgical tape, cleaned my nose out, bit of tape over mouth, cured in a few days, now I just make sure my nose is clear & no tape, result is a good sleep, try it, cheap & easy.

It could be apnea or something else. I was waking up feeling like I hadn’t been breathing for over 2 minutes. I had to stand up to catch my breath.

in my case, it was a combination of dysphagia and gastritis.

best bet is to see a doctor then get a second opinion. It’s cheap.
