At the risk of being burned by incindiary replies I feel obligated to state the obvious once again.

If you are not exposed you cannot be infected and don't need a vaccine immediately.

Maybe I'm speaking for the 'silent majority', but myself and my Thai GF simply avoid going out. We go out twice a month for groceries but lately only get them from local fresh markets early in the day before the crowds come. Not total quarantine but pretty close.

We are both hesitant about most of the available vaccines (are there really any?) and plan to wait for western ones to be available, fully understanding that this could take many months.

It makes no sense to me to travel to America to get vaccinated; the logistics are insurmountable to me.

While it's true we live very comfortably outside of town, and are both home bodies, we still miss the occasional shopping trip or restaurant visit. Overall all though we choose to just stay out of the chaos and anxiety by staying at home.

I understand that many are more social or have external obligations that we don't. I'm just reminding folks that there are options to taking immediate action amid the confusion and misinformation scrum happening now.

If the situation remains the same at year end I may revise my strategy. Until then I'll just chill.

I am the same as you, I haven't been passed my front gate for over 2 months, my Mrs does a big shop about every 3 weeks and only really goes out to pay any bills that are due, I know I could set up apps or DD with the bank but can't be bothered, we limit any exposure to crowded places as much as we can, she's going slightly stir crazy which is why I allow her to do a bit out on her own, but she fully understands the risks involved and takes every precaution possible, double mask, visor or helmet with visor and takes alcohol hand cleaner everywhere, when my ATM card comes back out of the machine it gets wiped ????

Sounds like a hedge for more money.

The way this is being handled has me moving from feeling confused and disheartened to being disgusted.

That's the way to do it IMO. I suspect there are quite a few like us here, just biding our time and rolling with the punches.

My lady is late 40's and very active. So she needs some small local trips too. Our house is nearly surrounded by pineapple fields which we walk regularly for exercise and diversion. We also have basic gym equipment.

She is hyper-vigilant as well and protective of my health, which I appreciate.

We double-mssk now too and use lots of alcohol. I didn't mind the single cloth mask, but with the heat here now double masking is a burden. It ends up soggy and disgusting, but gets cleaned quickly.

My Lady has cleaned the house several times and I'm thinking of mentioning how dirty the roof seems but don't think I could suppress a smile. Worst is that she might grab a ladder and start up there with a mop!

So I admit that we feel the quarantine but neither of us find it oppressive and consider it a small price to pay for the relative luxury of not stressing about virus or vaccine. I can sleep well with my decision.

I have opinions on several relevant issues but mostly refrain from the daily grind on TVF and the increasing belligerence of some members. A pack of wild dogs fighting over a scrap of spoiled food comes to mind. There is very little information available now, just dubious bits often refuted or disavowed the next day. It's just bad mental health to pursue it.

Unfortunately there are those who would label us as paranoid, crazy & bonkers, my brother died earlier this year and I had to send him a farewell and goodbye message via messenger that one of his nurses held for him to hear before they turned his ventilator off, the most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to do in my whole 67 years, I don't wish this thing on anyone, I just wish people realised just how bad it can be if you get it. But the naysayers will never believe and just keep spreading it.

Obviously I will pay for my jab, I don't expect to receive Pfizer from the government program

It will cost you an arm and a leg sir. Private hospitals will need to maximize profits, and take fill advantage of the situation. TIT ????

I don't think this is the case. The private one I registered with released a statement saying it would be non-profit

What is the current echange rate for an arm? Leg? (Sounds like a Monty Python skit.)

I still think pricing will be 6,500 all in at the top level, maybe when packaged with a "wellness" option?

Average might be 2,500 per shot, plus 500 baht fee (2x) so, 6,000 all in. Some provincial private hospitals are mentioning 5,000 all in.

All figures are for Moderna. Haven't seen any mention of Pfizer or J&J yet.

I think my annual flu shot was ~ 1,200 + 300, so 1,500 all in.

Personally I prefer to pay, especially if that offers me the option to choose a specific vaccine.

I'm so glad I didn't wait for these bozos to act.

I get my second shot in Arizona tomorrow.

That’s what I am thinking of doing since I have family in Arizona. Are you staying there now or did you fly there especially to get the jabs?

Sorry to hear about your loss. I thought for sure that my older brother with all his conditions would die, but his infection passed in a week and he later got vaccinated.

Obviously outcomes are highly variable between individuals, which by itself should be a major consideration as opposed to the standard refrain "it only kills 0.000x% of infected people", etc.

Personally I've never been a gambler so think that any chance is too much if the risk can be avoided.

So my choice is rather simple.

I long ago stopped caring about what others think of my choices.

When I retired my co-workers ask where I would go. After telling them they said "so you want to go live in squalor and eat rice with a bunch of gooks?"

I smiled and said "Yes". I don't regret my choice.

A USA comedian from decades past, Jack Benny, constantly portrayed himself as a cheapskate.

One of his jokes was "A mugger approached me on the street and told me choose between my money or my life. I told him to wait a minute while I considered it."

Some unfortunate Covid patients lost arms and legs to the infection, and many lost their lives.

Many things in life are a gamble, but in some cases we have choices to minimize risk.
