TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan said on Tuesday it will tighten entry controls on people from a number of nations including Afghanistan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Germany, and ask them to stay in government-run quarantine facilities for a set number of days after arrival.

The move is in response to concerns about variant forms of the virus, chief cabinet spokesman Katsunobu Kato told a news conference.

Thailand seems to forget sometimes that the world is watching closely and monitor what is really going on in other countries, then take pro-active measures to safeguard themselves.

The Thai governments bungling of vaccinations is going to hit Thailand hard this year.

Even Phuket now say maybe 65% will be inoculated to allow in tourism, somehow I don't envisage other countries sharing the same lax attitude.

Almost no one was allowed to travel from Thailand to japan anyway.   Japan's borders are closed tighter that Thailands.  Only Japanese citizens and a few other special categories of people are allowed to enter the country.

"Mass" influx of athletes only though.... which is only something like 15,000 people if you go by past Olympic Games.
