If a foreigner has paid into the Social Security Fund for (let's say) 20 years, and then retires at 60, do they still get the medical cover into retirement? I'm hearing conflicting info, for example, that they only get a choice of either pension OR medical cover, and another source at the local SSO office said they only get the pension and there is no chance for the medical cover for foreigners. There's not much I can find online about this.

In my case I worked more than 12 years on SSF and I am still covered by the health insurance for 436 THB a month and I am 62. Just go to the office They are very helpful..

You absolutely CAN continue the medical cover but must opt to do this within 6 months of stopping work and must make monthly payments for it.

This has nothing at all to do with the pension aspect.

Thais seldom do this because they will be covered under UHC if nto under SS. For foreigners, absolutely worth doing.

If your local SS office is unwilling to do this, call the main office for advice You may need to call them from your local office and have them talk to the staff at your local office and explain it to them.

Have your tax number with you, one of the reasons some local SS officers say foreigners can't do it is that the enrollment form online asks for Thai ID number. Your tax number serves.
