Cambodian government spokesman Phay Siphan said he has no doubt that the Sino-Cambodian ties will be closer and stronger in the future thanks to the greater cooperation under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the recently-signed Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership free trade pact.

I wonder what happens when the poor countries thus strangled - Pakistan comes to mind, and some countries in Black Africa - simply (1) refuse to repay loans etc (2) kick out the assorted Chinese 'wolf warriors' and would-be settlers. It's bound to happen sooner or later. The Africans for instance didn't kick out the Western colonialists some decades ago only to replace them with Chinese ...

Will be fascinating to watch when it happens.
