Twenty percent of donated Pfizer vaccines from US must go to foreigners living in Thailand, says CCSA general

The chief of Thailand's National Security Council and head of the CCSA told  the Thai media yesterday that foreigners living in Thailand must receive 20% of a 1.5 million batch of Pfizer vaccine that has been donated by the United States.

 

He asked the Thai people for understanding in this regard and assured them that the rest will be used for their benefit.  

 

The supplies are due to arrive before the end of the year said Gen Natthaphol Nakphanich speaking to Thai PBS yesterday. 

 

That would mean foreigners living in Thailand would receive 300,000 doses. Based on two per person that could see 150,000 people get inoculated, notes ASEAN Now. 

 

The media did not explain why a proportion of the donated lot would have to go to foreigners such as whether it was a stipulation of the donation. Or whether it would be free.

 

It was also not reported what nationalities might benefit from the largesse. 

 

Gen Natthaphol also commented on the importance of re-opening closed construction sites in Bangkok forthwith. 

 

He mentioned that construction that was closed down for long periods could result in safety problems. 

 

He also referred to the need to have an alternative to field and regular hospitals namely what has been called home and community isolation to help bring 100% of infected people into the system.

One assume U.S. citizens will be at the front of the line.

 

China donated vaccines with the stipulation that their citizens here got vaccinated.

 

 

Natives will get restless. Seeing a protest on Wireless Road this week.

20% of nothing is still Zero...those allocations will be long gone before any foreigner gets his spot at the table

I would think only the USA citizens at first, when all done, the rest for the USA allies (brits).

That would be all, not enough for the rest.

Foreign teachers will get their jab in late summer, very few elderly and sick getting now and within near future, but about half of expats will be at mercy of the second part of the vax program, middle/end of autumn

Because the millions of vaccines exported from India to the richest countries in the world completely disproves the rhetoric. Thailand is a developing country that as yet hasn't seen one misely shot from the developed world and millions from China albeit its usefulness is in question against Delta.

 

Gates is full of $£€$. It is all about money.

Somehow I dont think this will actually happen.

The vaccine will go to whoever the Thai authorities deem to deserve it and any questions asked about why the US expats didnt get any will be covered with "It was a misunderstanding" or "Why you be racist to Thai people?".

NO....Johnson and Johnson is single dose. 

Pfizer could also be the second dose of a different first.

Correct, although some countries (logical ones) are accepting just 1 mrna shot and proof of infection as fully vaccinated, as initial natural immune response is superior even against latest variants, so only one moderna or pfzier required, obviously dumb nuts arent.

And Thailand did opt out of covax, another annoying fact.

 

France sent doses of Jansson for its own nationals in Thailand.

 

and Thailand has only been open about having a Covid problem since, say, June.

It's unfortunate the OP article didn't also note that as part of China's donation of Sinovac vaccines to Thailand, the Chinese government reached deal with the Thai government that a portion of the vaccines had to be used to vaccinate ALL Chinese nationals and Embassy personnel residing in Thailand.

 

And beyond just that, the MoPH actually set up a clinic in the Sathorn area staffed by Thai MoPH staff to carry out the vaccinations for the Chinese nationals.  And I didn't hear the local news media or locals complaining or raising questions about that deal.  Instead, they were quite happy to get the donated Chinese vaccines....

 

Well, at least back then, they were quite happy to get the donated Sinovac vaccines. These days, not so much.

There are many people taking an mrna topup on top of JandJ in the US (without declaring), somehow it got published as an op-ed (possibly nyt cant remember exactly), seems overkill unless clinically vulnerable, but not a doctor or a nyt reporter..

China also donated a tranche or three of Sinovac, with the stipulation that all their citizens here got vaccinated.
