April vs Passport Card

Featured Replies

Plz any comments welcome on the pros and cons of either of these companies for coverage in Thailand.

April International was my first choice but I was deemed uninsurable due to my multiple orthopedic surgeries over the past few decades so I went with David Shield/Passport Card.

When I did the analysis 2/3 years or so ago David Shield was 3-$500 cheaper than April Thailand (My Health Essential) for the age brackets I was looking at with nearly twice the total cover.

April International (then an April policy called Medicare Long Term International) was slightly better coverage but nearly 70% more expensive than the David Shield policy.

You need to look at current prices for your age bracket and likely increases to the next bracket and compare the cover. Above is for in patient only.
