BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand will announce new travel restrictions, mall closures and curbs on gatherings in the capital Bangkok and surrounding provinces starting next week, in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, two government sources told Reuters.

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) imposed a number of partial lockdown measures on Friday, including a night-time curfew and a ban on gatherings of five people or more in Bangkok and five nearby provinces, to come into effect on Monday (July 12th), to curb the continued surge in COVID-19 infections and deaths.

Inoculation with two doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine can boost the neutralizing antibody level to 80-90% and provide immunity to the Alpha variant of the COVID-19 virus to some extent, but cannot fend off the highly contagious Delta variant, which is becoming dominant in Thailand and many other parts of the world, said a prominent Thai doctor Friday.

Thailand’s frontline medics to get one Pfizer booster shot from donated vaccine

Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration lays down new restrictions starting on Monday

Huai Khwang district office in Bangkok has lodged a complaint with Makkasan police, accusing the organiser of the “Miss Grand Samut Sakhon 2021” pageant for holding the event on June 26th and 27th, at the Mirin Theatre RCA in Huai Khwang district, in violation of the Communicable Disease Act and restrictions announced by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
