Naew Na reported on a press briefing headed by immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang who they referred to as Big Oud.

The chief was telling the press about the success of his men in Samut Prakarn who staked out a hotel in King Kaew Road, Bang Plee.

At the scene was a BMW smart car and an unmarked vehicle.

Soon a van arrived and eight suspicious looking people that resembled Chinese got out.

The IB swooped and arrested seven Chinese nationals and one Vietnamese - none of them had passports or other documents.

Also arrested was the driver Sombun who had his vehicle seized.

The illegals had entered Thailand illegally in Chiang Rai from Myanmar a couple of days prior.

Some of them were in Thailand to work, some were headed for a casino in Cambodia.

Sombun said he had transported people four or five times before for about 7,000 baht but this time he was paid 10,000 baht.

Everyone was arrested and charged with several offences.

After being swooped....it was revealed none of them had passports, other documents, or sufficient cash to pay an ‘on the spot’ fine.
