I have just heard from Japan Airlines that I no longer require the negative Covid test to board the aircraft here in the US. However they did not know whether the same would be the case upon arrival in Bangkok. Has anyone heard the latest news on this?

I am amazed if any airline will agree to check you in for a flight into Thailand without the RT-PCR test result. I am almost sure that Thai immigration requires the airline to ensure you have this as part of your pre departure documentation, and the airline is liable for stiff fines if they neglect to verify the lab result before boarding. Once you arrive in Bangkok, I do not think your entry would be denied. You would be required immediately to take an RT-PCR test on arrival and chastised for the defective documentation. Deportation in this situation would be illogical, obviously involving greater infection risk than isolating and immediately testing you.

You definitely need it to board a flight to Thailand. Nothing has changed in that regard.

What they may have meant is that the airline as such no longer requires it. It is still required to enter Thailand and they are very, very, very unlikley to check you in on a flight to Thailand without it.

It may not be the latest news but I boarded my JAL flight in Dallas 3 weeks ago.  My flight was Dallas-NRT-BKK.  Before boarding I had to show my COE, proof of Covid insurance and my negative Covid test.
