The explanation was that he has to ring it through Customs and would get find if there was anything illegal like cigarettes in it :o What do you think, do postal employees have the right and power to search their customers' small packages?

Someone is inspecting my mail - almost all letters. The right-hand corner flap is frequently lifted, unglued, riped sometimes. You can't stick down those pre- glued flaps. The only sad part to it is there is never anything of interest/value in them.

If it makes you feel any better the same happens in the UK when posting to Thailand. I have to declare to the Post Office the packages contents while they fill in a customs form, I have found it easier to show them the contents so that they are satisfied. I'm told (dont know if its true) that this is all to do with the international crackdown on money laundering??

They have NEVER opened any of my post at the local postoffice !

I have monthly mags coming from overseas , padded envelope , carton boxes and so on.

The Thai Customs department has the right to check incoming and outgoing mail and reseal this with an official sticker not the staff at a local post office.

All post goes thru Thai customs postal department before it goes to the postoffice , so why should a postoffice do a customs officers job ?

Almost all countries in world have laws protecing your privacy / post laws that say nobody is allowed to open your mail without a court order exception being customs officers.

And I would be supprised if Thailand does not have this law.

I am pretty sure the staff in your postoffice is breaking the law.

Go and get a PO box in a other post office is my advise or use DHL.

But to be sure check these links yourself
