Thailand wants to limit export of locally-produced AstraZeneca vaccine

The department also said that it will assess the results of “mix and match” vaccinations, to ensure that the people receive effective vaccinations against COVID-19 and herd immunity is being developed.

Long term studies?  Who needs studies? Just jab it into the public's arms and study the results on the fly

Plenty of western nations with a surplus of AZ. The EU debacle should have rerouted millions of jabs. AZ does not rule the world! If AZ has entered into contracts with other ASEAN members based on SB production that is their problem not Thailands. Virtually all vaccine producing countries have banned exports at some time despite 'contracts'

If they break the contract then it will be nullified and that will be the end of AZ in Thailand - and they will deserve it.

There is a supply chain in operation here, without the continued cooperation of AZ and their special ingredients  it all ends.

Why AZ chose Thailand is anybody's guess. But I think Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore would willingly open AZ production facilities.

The Thai house of cards is falling apart purely because of greed.

You have evidence of surplus doses of AZ in the EU?

Not EU but Canada has surplus after giving up on AZ in favour of mRNA. Japan, too. Perhaps AZ Thailand could query which countries received AZ & we could beg of any extras.

They should read and heed the book "How to Make Friends and Influence People".

Or better, the one titled 'How to Win Friends and Influence People'..(smiley face)

OK i dont get it. Japan is sending (donating) AZ, i red in Asean now, to Thailand end of year and now Thailand has to reduce AZ export! Export to Japan then, so Japan cant donate it back again?

Something fishy about AZ. What a stupid way of commerce, or not?

Wow just red another story in Asean Now, Thailand ordered only 3 million doses/month with AZ. Now it puzzles me more, Why would you order, if you make it yourself? Really i lost it with AZ and Thailand.

How many brown envelopes are running with the so called leaders.

But ok , just waiting till 17-08 to get my second pfizer and then i have had my part.

Because Thailand is just the manufacturer. They did not invent it. It is not their IP. They are just agreeing to manufacture it for AZ with an agreement to get a supply.

In regards to what Japan is doing. A lot of first world countries who hogged the vaccines in the beginning are now trading their supply now for a supply later. Essentially, trading their place in line.

I know they might, would produce it under a license, so maybe in the contract included, they ordered 3 million doses. maybe.

There was a story , Thailand would have 5 million doses and the rest of the 100 million doses for export.

There was even a complaint about Siam Biotech, being the only one to produce it. Red it in TVF.

Probably there are more of those companies in Thailand.

Probably all richer countries will get rit of their AZ, as they had it way too late, but the citizens didnt want it after the trouble with AZ. Also here in my country. But anyway there are way more issues with AZ.

I also refused and has now Pfizer. I really dont trust any government. My bad? maybe.

Since 2000 i really find the world is changing in a real bad way and my little trust has gone down.

This is bound to endear them to the rest of ASEAN no end.

Fascinating to learn how this shamozzle all began because they intended to take advantage of the pandemic with a ham-fisted attempt at self-glorification.

It's the unreported detail available in overseas based media that make it all make perfect sense.

History will be rather unkind to the coup klutz clan when the story is eventually told in full.

I would not be surprised to see AZ pull out of the production in Thailand if it takes all the vaccine for itself.

That would be disastrously bad for vaccine production because AZ will be doing testing and monitoring here. They will also have control over the raw materials and chemicals which will be diverted to other AZ production facilities.

I suspect without AZ's continuing support then vaccine production here will stop.

Thailand have the scientific capability, despite the mess the coup klutz clan made of the contract. If though, they are still building the plant (and we will really never know despite the low-key opening pressers they have done, low-key because they are backpedaling frantically away from the shade thrown on the original cunning plan -that Private Baldrick could have done a better job of.)

You may be right, but from what I can gather about the deal, all is not lost, just severely delayed and curtailed. As the AZ CEO said, this is new territory -for everyone involved.

Having said that, it was the salim-hijacking and hubris surrounding the entire plan that led to this denouement. Today in another article, a leading expert says the Government have never(!) sat down with Thailands leading medical experts to this day, to hammer out a workable plan.

That says it all really.

This was the Covax part of the deal they turned down, along with those other beacons of hope for humanity: North Korea, Burundi, Madagascar, Tanzania, and some other failed states I cant be bothered looking up, now what's that saying about being the sum of the five people you keep company with?

On this basis alone, they are staring into more than a Covid Abyss.
